There's evidence slowly mounting, suvch as the removal of Beware The Forest Mushrooms from a well known music channel on YT in much the same way Megalovania was and Palutina mentioning MegaSmylax in Plant's guidance dialog. Combine this with Yoster Isle getting referenced in Yoshi's crafted world and one can assume square and Nintendo are bros. again right now, :shrug

Plus: There's a certain leak that the Geno thread on smashboards think may be tied to Geno. A picture of a starling bird released by a well known source (accidentally.) One trusted poster confirmed that it does indeed represent SOMETHING but is under strict orders not to say what.

most dont think its geno.....but me?

UPDATE:

:cudi @Lumpy McRighteous ; I TOLD YOU IT WAS MOUNTING!

So yeah, it looks like "season 2" of Ultimate's DLC is gonna consist of 3rd party reps like the Fighters Pass. That being said, Geno is from the Mario series despite being created by Squeenix; couple that with him already being a spirit, and I still just don't see him making the cut. However, I'd be fine being wrong if that meant Bandana Dee got in as a fighter, too.

I think Geno is likely as long as Square is willing not to be Dicks. Though, I heard Yoko Shinimura was asking a hefty rights fee for songs these days :Hutz

Is Bandanna Dee your number 1 wish? Me, i know Banjo is here and he was my #1 with K. Rool, but Geno...man, Geno would be that super ultra rare gift you never dreamed you'd get. :lenny

Squeenix forking over only 2 songs and only a Chocobo hat leads me to believe that they aren't as overly on board with having a hand in Smash as other 3rd parties. As a result, I don't expect Sora, Geno or any other one of their creations to make it in Ultimate for that reason.

Since Sakurai spoiled me rotten by making sure that EVERYONE IS HERE™ alongside getting Incineroar AND B-K in Ultimate, Bandana Dee, Shantae and Zael are my top 3 choices left. Considering all three are spirits, they probably won't get in, but I still have hope for least BD making it, since he:

- Is one of the most well-known Kirby characters
- Can be created "from spare parts" in a short amount of time a la Wolf
- Has been a highly requested pick for years

MY DUDE!! :proud You're already on BDR Phase Four!! :banderas

One character at a time though. We'll get there! :lenny
I tried Shantae for the GBC, but didn't go any further than the intro because of how much it aged. However, I still wanted to try the series and became a fan thanks to Risky's Revenge and The Pirate's Curse. :D Haven't played 1/2 Genie Hero yet, but I'm aiming to get the physical edition for my Switch in a month or so. :sk

Even though she's a spirit, I still have hope that Shantae will get in Ultimate as a playable character, since she's been an icon of indy gaming and she can easily use her RR/TPC art style instead of the 1/2 Genie Hero art style her spirit uses.

That intro was tight as fuck. :mark: Funnily enough, the brief cut to her house's window frame sparked talk about her being included in Ultimate as a playable character because of said window frame looking strikingly similar to the Smash logo.

Bozon said it was nothing more but a cute little Easter egg, but I'm still holding out hope that she winds up getting in regardless. :D

As of yesterday, Terry Bogard is officially here! :D As someone who enjoys how the devs managed to translate Ryu and Ken's movesets and mechanics from their home series into Smash, they did yet another great job when it comes to Terry. Still trying to get the hang of his super special moves' inputs, but I'm loving how his neutral attack's first two hits and his down tilt can cancel so easily into his specials. His home stage is so damn slick, too.

Although I have Ryu and Ken on my laundry list of mains, Terry's gonna see more usage from me in comparison because his moveset and mechanics fit my preferences a bit better in comparison to the Shotos (and because he also won me over in Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO because of his stereotypically American Chad charisma :lol).

In addition to update 6.0.0 bringing Terry on board, a few characters also got some solid buffs: Incineroar :)mark:), Kirby :)dance), Donkey Kong :)D) Jigglypuff :)sk), Robin and yes, @Beatles123, King K. Rool.

After 4.0.0, I didn't think we'd get an update that did quality of life-level buffs so reasonably well for a number of characters that needed some TLC, and yet here we are:

- King K. Rool went from a middle-of-the-road low tier character at best to feeling like a reasonable inclusion in the lower end of mid tier. Kirby and Jigglypuff were in the same boat, but because they still have polarized aspects to their mobility (and some moves as well, in the case of Jiggly), their buffs make me see them giving Little Mac a run for his money in the upper portion of low tier.

- While Donkey Kong's general perception has, like K. Rool's, taken a nosedive from initially viewed as a top tier to most recently fluctuating between mid tier and low tier, the buffs he got have cemented him as a mid tier.

- Although Incineroar and Robin probably won't have their tier placements advance too much in comparison to Kirby, DK, K. Rool and Jiggly because of more potent competition residing in mid tier, sleeping on them would be more unwise now than ever before because of how their respective buffs made some of their best options noticeably more cohesive.

Geno is coming in pass 2. FIGHT ME.
We've had a number of Mii Fighter costumes (specifically the Inkling, Chrom, Isabelle and King K. Rool costumes) in SSB4 that wound up being teasers of playable characters to come in Ultimate. So although we got Eleven, Arusu, Solo and Eight to rep Square Enix alongside Cloud, Geno could very well join them, since he's still a costume. Honsetly, you never know who could make it in.

In the meantime, if you're still invested with K. Rool, definitely give him a whirl now that update 6.0.0 is live. He still has some glaring issues (primarily high ending lag and, aside from his buffed neutral air, high landing lag) that could be tended to in a minute way, but the buffs that he did get in this update are too damn solid to be ignored.

Byleth isn't surprising when you take into account how Three Houses has been seen considerable critical and commercial success and how she follows in Roy and Corrin's footsteps in regard to being used to promote an upcoming/newly released FE game. Honestly, I'm fine with her inclusion for 2 reasons:

1) She's the first FE character to finally implement lances, axes and bows instead of just a sword AND she wields all three of them as part of her moveset alongside her sword.

2) Her inclusion means that first-party characters are indeed on the cards for subsequent Fighters Passes, which means that Bandana Dee still has a chance. :D

From what Sakurai explained, she's gonna be like Robin in that she wields more than just a sword, but at the cost of having sluggish mobility for the sake of balancing purposes. So yeah, I'm definitely keen to give her a whirl considering Robin's fun, and I'll add her to my laundry list of mains like the rest of the Fighters Pass characters, although she's gonna be my second least used FP fighter (sorry Joker, but I can't forgive you for invalidating Sheik).

While I really wish that the first Fighters Pass capped off its string of third party inclusions by bringing in Shantae or Crash Bandicoot, hopefully the second Pass comes through in the clutch by bring either or both of them on board alongside Bandana Dee.

So after a few hours of giving Byleth a try, I can say that she's a fun character and as a minor pleasant surprise, she actually isn't a mute automaton of a protagonist. Thankfully, being pretty damn good with Richter helped me learn how to use her moveset quite adeptly, especially in regard to spacing and timing, but I'm definitely still practicing to see what she's truly capable of.

From what I've personally seen, she's got a decent combo game courtesy of her down tilt, down throw, and short hop fast fallen neutral air. She's also deceptively powerful: neutral infinite is decent for damage racking and has a surprisingly strong finishing hit, neutral attack's decent knockback makes it a nice anti-pressure option in general despite its average damage output, up smash is like Zero Suit Samus' on steroids , up air is excellent for juggles and reliable for KOing outright (especially near the upper blast line), and even her forward tilt and clean dash attack are strong enough to be viable (albeit situational) KOing options while near a stage's edge.

Sakurai wasn't kidding about Byleth's grab game being meh, though: no KO throws, her up throw's ability to chain into up special isn't guaranteed, and her pummel is actually slow as hell by Ultimate's standards (Robin's pummel is unfortunately in the same boat). Outside of this, her moveset is indeed sluggish: her lance attacks aren't too terrible in regard to lag, but they need to spaced responsibly regardless (especially since they're terribly weak when sourspotted), firing even uncharged arrows is risky without proper spacing because of their ending lag and especially their start-up lag, and the axe is slower than molasses in winter time and thus should be used exclusively for punishing and hard reads a la Ike's smash attacks.

Overall, I'm enjoying Byleth despite my initial mild reception toward her inclusion. Her flaws make her probably on par with Banjo & Kazooie as the least competitively viable Fighters Pass characters (with the reasons for B-K being their jack of all trades playstyle and almost non-existent combo game), although she and B-K still have enough worthwhile tricks to be in the higher end of mid tier regardless.
