Stone Cold talks about dream feud with CM Punk and more

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin was interviewed by WWE.com this week to hype the new WWE All Stars video game. Here is one highlight of what the Texas Rattlesnake said in reference to an Austin vs. Punk dream feud:

"Damn right it is. CM Punk is one of my favorite WWE Superstars right now. I like what he brings to the ring, I like his mental game. I think a rivalry between “Stone Cold” and CM Punk would have been a hell of a spectacle and a lot of entertainment."

Here's the entire interview:

It’s been a good year to be a “Stone Cold” Steve Austin fan. From verbally terrorizing contestants on the reality hit WWE Tough Enough to nailing Alex Riley with a Stunner on Raw, the WWE Hall of Famer has been stomping mudholes with the same vigor that he had a decade ago. The reenergized Rattlesnake is also raising hell as a playable character in THQ’s wild new video game, WWE All Stars, which is in stores now.

WWE.com: WWE All Stars is one of the biggest video game releases of the year, but for some reason we can’t picture you playing Xbox 360 at the Broken Skull Ranch.

"STONE COLD" STEVE AUSTIN: There ain’t a whole lot of gaming at the BSR, but I was at THQ a couple of weeks ago with the Tough Enough kids and got a chance to play the game and I was totally impressed. I’ve been involved with a couple of hundred video games and this is the coolest one out of them all.

WWE.com: One of the most interesting features in WWE All Stars is the “Fantasy Warfare” mode, which pits your character against CM Punk. Is that a rivalry you wish you could’ve had in real life?

AUSTIN: Damn right it is. CM Punk is one of my favorite WWE Superstars right now. I like what he brings to the ring, I like his mental game. I think a rivalry between “Stone Cold” and CM Punk would have been a hell of a spectacle and a lot of entertainment.

WWE.com: Do you think the competitors from your generation are tougher than the current crop of WWE Superstars?

AUSTIN: The business is different these days, make no mistake about it, but to be in the WWE ring night in and night out takes a special breed of cat. And that includes the current crop of Superstars and Divas in the ring right now. But, man, old-school tough is old-school tough.

WWE.com: WWE All Stars is all about dream matches, and no dream match is bigger than “Stone Cold” vs. Hulk Hogan.

AUSTIN: I’ll tell you what, when I was down at THQ playing the game, I played “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and the other guy played Hulk Hogan and I kicked his @$$.

WWE.com: That’s no surprise. Can you think of a legendary opponent who would have given you a real challenge?

AUSTIN: I wish I would’ve gotten a chance to wrestle Curt Hennig when I was truly at the top of being “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and he was truly at the top of being Mr. Perfect. When I talk to these young guys [on WWE Tough Enough] about what they need, Curt Hennig had it. He was vicious, he had a mean streak ... just a top-notch performer. Jerry Lawler's another guy. A lot of people know him for his announcing, but he’s one of my favorite in-ring performers. You go back to some of his stuff in Mid-South or USWA and, man, that guy was tremendous.

WWE.com: As a fan, what’s a fantasy bout you wish you could have a front row seat for?

AUSTIN: I would’ve loved to see Andre the Giant and Big Show — the two true giants in the business.

WWE.com: That’d be epic. Who'd come out on top?

AUSTIN: Got to go with Andre. Man, he was just an imposing, French menace. Everybody called him “Boss,” because whatever Andre said, went. Big Show’s a little more on the athletic side, but you got to go with Andre on that. Big Show would tell you the same.

WWE.com: It’s been about eight years since you retired from active competition. Is there a Superstar who is carrying on your legacy today?

AUSTIN: You know, the closest comparison you could make would be Randy Orton, but, man, when someone wants to make comparisons to me, it’s just like making a comparison to Michael Jordan. For a period of time, I was the hottest person on two feet that had ever been in the business. I set all kinds of records from attendance to merchandise to ratings records. When someone can beat that, then I’ll say, "Yep, they beat me." But no one’s done that.

WWE.com: So what would The Texas Rattlesnake say to someone who is still on the fence about picking up WWE All Stars?

AUSTIN: Well, if you’re not planning on buying this game, then you’re making the biggest mistake of your life, son. I’m saying to you right now, this is the best damn video game I’ve ever seen, and that’s the bottom line, because I said so!

Re: Stone Cold talks about dream feud with CM Punk

Austin/Punk? Why the hell not lol.
Re: Stone Cold talks about dream feud with CM Punk

Punk is the only person i would buy Austin feuding with from the new gang,

Miz would gain nothign from it and anyone else wouldnt be able to carry it.
Re: Stone Cold talks about dream feud with CM Punk

I don't think there's another potential feud out there that I would mark for as hard as this one. The most entertaining and best all around performer (in my opinion) of the Attitude era, and the most talented Superstar (in my opinion) of todays roster. Stone Colds binge drinking ass kicking character is the perfect foil to Punks straight edge, manipulative character.
Re: Stone Cold talks about dream feud with CM Punk

Why is he teasing us like this?
It`s not fair....
Austin and Punk is the greatest feud to never have happened. If I could pick any program to have going into Wrestlemania next year it would be this.
And Austin and Punk feud would be fucking awesome.

I could totally see Austin's promo's being absolutely intense, while Punk's would be subdued--always asking the question as to why he was angry. I'm sure the match would be better than the Punk/Orton fiasco we were presented with at Mania.

How did the IWC wet itself? This is the first thread I've seen here about this...
That is my #1 dream match :)
Austin knows what talent is and damn right CM Punk is talent. I love him he knows how to run a crowd his promos aren't boring I really wish they go at it at mania (it be gold!)
Austin: I really like C.M. Punk. I think he’s one of the top workers in the ring. I love his promos. I love his style. There’s no smoke and mirrors. I like the straight-edge lifestyle stuff he does. You want to start pairing that against the beer-guzzling “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, I think you’d have an interesting feud to say the least. He would push me to the limits, I would teach that kid a thing or two, and there would be some wonderful promos going back and forth. I like him a lot.

Wow.... WWE better book that feud. it's gonna be brutal
Austin vs Punk would have lead to Punk being buried by Austin. No doubt it would have had its moments entertainment wise, but it would have been nothing special. Punk vs Foley would have been way better especially on the mic. Austin vs Hogan, and I mean anti-boss Austin vs NWO Hogan. NWO Hogan was easily one of the best heels of the 90's decade, and Austin's anti-boss gimmick was easily one of the most popular fan gimmick of the 90's. Couldn't ask for a better feud. Hogan finally passes the torch to a man that out did him in everything that the WWE(F) had to offer including sinking the ship that was WCW in which Hogan tried to re-invent himself.

:lmao

Really do wish this could happen though!
I believe CM Punk has the potential to be the Stone Cold of this generation.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OVgPFdD41c ...i watched 10x WWE All Stars Fantasy Warfare Match - Steve Austin VS CM Punk have to say is incredible and one of best promos for the last decade. i hope WWF bring that storylines to reality and make it happen...from various Steve Austin interview sound like he wanted to do it and he really like it. not Only Steve Austin foul mouth beer drinker but Austin also he's a bully and this could involve other guys like sheamus got beat up by Austin join CM PUNK.

I would love for Austin to come back to do this feud/match. He can totally trust Punk in the ring to be as safe as possible too. They can easily tell the ready-made story of two guys with clashing lifestyles/beliefs/generations. Austin's obviously in good enough shape to go at least one more time so I hope he strongly considers doing it.
It'd be a great match, but could you imagine how awesome the feud could've been during the days of the Straight Edge Society
His analogy of him and MJ is spot on IMO
I believe CM Punk has the potential to be the Stone Cold of this generation.
Yeah, I hate how they are kinda pushing Randy Orton as the "Stone Cold" type.
