Ok, right off the bat I'm going to say that I was once a big fan of "The Texas Rattlesnake". I found him so entertaining. Then all of a sudden Austin transitioned from the ass-kicking, rule-breaking, bad attitude having, SOB into the comic releif of WWE. While some people may have liked watching Stone Cold sing songs, wear a badge, drive around on an ATV, and go off on his drawn out "WHAT?!" promos...I felt that it took away from the quality that made me love him as a kid. Nonetheless there are three things to consider as far as why I started to dislike Stone Cold.
1) My standards for favorites was set higher, and became more based on athletic ability and actual wrestling.
2) His character took a turn and made him into WWE's comic releif.
The third thing to consider is something that Stone Cold fans have either chosen to forget, don't care about, or don't even know about. Nonetheless it's widely known that Steve Williams (Steve Austin) was found guilty on charges of domestic assault. I've gotten into this discussion with people before and one of the main arguments I've heard is, "Well I'm still going to like him because what he did out of the ring doesn't change that I like him as an entertainer." and I guess that's fine if that's the way you want to justify it. I just don't understand how so many people have been able to look past the fact that not once, but TWICE this man has been in situations of domestic violence (Once with Debra and once with his girlfriend after Debra). I can't respect a man like that, let alone idolize him. I can understand if you can enjoy his work in the wrestling world, but for those that still idolize him...I just don't get it.
