In the old days in the WWF, the only way to win was to escape the cage either by the door or over the top. The NWA/WCW always had pinfalls in the cage, like Sting vs Black Scorpion or Ric Flair vs Ronnie Garvin.

I grew up on the WWF so I always liked the old cage rules, because it made it different from a regular match, and provided more creative ways to try to escape the cage.

In recent years, WWE has eased up on that, now allowing Pinfalls or submissions, rather than escaping the cage.

Which is better, only escape rules or having pinfalls also?

i like it either way, wwe "eased up" on it during the attitude era with pinfalls and then later on allowing submission wins as well

The escape rule didn't make sense. Its supposed to keep the wrestlers in and everyone else out but you can win by escaping ?
Now i'll admit the fighting to escape the cage was exciting, but they should put a roof on the top now that stuff like that ain't happening anymore.

Then again it'd just be a mini HIAC.

I like which ever one is a better climax to their story. As a writer I can't eliminate a story ending "just because". If it fits the story and/or match, that's the ending they should do.

The NWA rules make a lot more sense to me. However, growing up on WWF I do find I prefer their rules
