RIP to him.

Sidebar, is it just me or did the Rock not have the best relationship with his dad? I never hear him talk about his dad and rarely mentions. He didnt even say anything on twitter about his passing (maybe he wants to keep it private?). Am I missing something here?

Soul Man was WAY more than just The Rock's dad. For a full description of his life and career, listen to Dave Meltzer's (long but interesting) analysis here.

This was almost a year ago:

Rock is probably taking this loss hard, understandably. He hasn't been on social media at all. My heart goes out to him and the family.

Dwayne The Rock Johnson

I love you.
You broke color barriers, became a ring legend and trail blazed your way thru this world.
I was the boy sitting in the seats, watching and adoring you, my hero from afar.
The boy you raised to always be proud of our cultures and proud of who and what I am.
The boy you raised with the toughest of love.
The intense work.
The hard hand.
The adoring boy who wanted to know only your best qualities.
Who then grew to become a man realizing you had other deep complex sides that needed to be held and understood.
Son to father.
Man to man.
That’s when my adoration turned to respect.
And my empathy turned to gratitude.
Grateful that you gave me life.
Grateful you gave me life’s invaluable lessons.
Dad, I wish I had one more shot to tell you, I love you, before you crossed over to the other side.
But you were ripped away from me so fast without warning.
Gone in an instant and no coming back.
Im in pain.
But we both know it’s just pain and it’ll pass.
Now I’ll carry your mana and work ethic with me, as it’s time to move on because I have my family to feed and work to accomplish.
Finally, I want you to rest your trailblazing soul, Soulman.
Pain free, regret free, satisfied and at ease.
You lived a very full, very hard, barrier breaking life and left it all in the ring.
I love you dad and I’ll always be your proud and grateful son.
Go rest high.

Despite The Rock had tough love with Rocky Johnson, Dwayne actually learn a lot valuable lesson from his old man, at first Dwayne was never be want to be a wrestler like his father because it would never make a lot money(somehow Rocky Johnson agree with his choice) and he rather to focus on football until he failed because the injury, Dwayne didn't have lot option to continue his life,he need work and the only choice that he have is continue his family legacy which is become the wrestler and Dwayne came to his dad to teach him, first Rocky Johnson tell young Dwayne how difficult this business was and Dwayne started learning everything from his dad.

On personal life, Dwayne eventually learn valuable lesson from his parents divorce especially from his father after him and his ex wife,Dany Garcia split but Dwayne still keep in touch with Dany as professional and former wife just like Rocky Johnson with Ata.
