So What Happened to Cody?

There was a lot of chat when he debuted, there was a moderate amount of chat when he showed up on TV and cut a promo.

Last bit of chat I heard he had a slightly dull Broken Skull Sessions interview.

What has this dude been up to and how has he been fairing?

Cody Rhodes is currently in the middle of a fun feud with Seth Rollins on Raw.

He's the most over babyface on the show, and arguably the most over guy in the whole company too (along with RKBro).

He'll be facing Rollins in a rematch tomorrow night at Wrestlemania Backlash (y)

Yeah I'm sure it will, just literally haven't heard shit about him online since his first TV.

I actually really liked Cody, but before he went back to WWE there was a constant weekly thread of people either praising him or bitching about him and then everything just went kind of dark in terms of reactions -- be they good or bad.

Except for the fact that Seth Rollins has consistently been elevating multiple guys that he's worked with over the past year.

This feud is currently (one of) the best highlight(s) on Raw because of Cody Rhodes AND Seth Rollins. They're 2 of the more over acts on Raw too.

I suppose that you'll conveniently overlook Rollins/Cody being 1 of the matches that stoled the show at Wrestlemania 38 here too.

Edit:

Rollins is honestly one of the several guys on Raw who matter too.

You couldn't be further from the truth, most people who were excited to have him debut are busy enjoying him. What is there to say after his debut? He's not been around long enough to make statements on his performance or impact, the guy is clearly over every time he in on the TV the crowd are chanting his name, and what more is there to say other than that? Many people are right here telling you that he's been great since his return, what about that says "everyone realised blah blah blah"?

What happened? Time happened. The Wrestling World moves on. The speculation and the return itself were always going to big deals and then everything after that will feel like a step down. That was obvious.

I mean was CM Punk as a big a deal a month after making his big return last year when he was working with Matt Sydal on Rampage? Of course not.

Cody made a foolish decision to come back and putting Seth Rollins there to fued with him is a waste of Seth's time!

Seth should be holding at least a mid card belt rn or something! Better than the worthless jobbers they been putting these belts on!

Maybe have Cody challenge Seth for it if they wanted to do Cody vs Seth! Its better than pushing jobbers!

Oh and of course Seth would go over because Cody is a jobber himself 😂

His match with Seth at WM was great imo. After that, it was just back to crybaby promo time and riding off his dad’s coattails. It’s nothing we haven’t seen him do before.

A lot of people in this forum talked shit about him for a long time and then people suddenly got excited when he came back lol

When WWE tries to tell a story, they make sure everyone is along with it and understands what’s going on. Sure, people that’ve followed him in the past 6 years know his story, but there’s a huge section of fans that don’t and haven’t had that exposure to him. So on this stage, as this version of himself it’s brand new to so much of the audience with the biggest possible payoff on the horizon, presumably.

Agreed about that match at Mania. Looking forward to tonight.

Cody is doing fine. His feud with Rollins has been underwhelming as all hell, but once he faces off with Roman things should pick up for him. He's obviously their #1 guy right now after Roman so Cody is making out well. He's got multi-month feuds with Edge, McIntyre, & Orton all there for him.

The initial buzz wore off already. He'll get fed to Roman eventually and then get lost in the shuffle

I’m sure Cody will be champ and have a good career

but they have not done enough to get non-wwe watching Cody fans to tune in

2 promos and 1 match in and I knew I was done.

getting fans to move over is a hard prospect - same with AEW and Danielson / Punk

you have to do something astronomical with them from day 1 it seems - cause you’ll get an initial bump and then it wears off
