The only person who benefitted from the MTB was Edge (and CM Punk to a certain degree).

Mr. Kennedy lost the briefcase to Edge
CM Punk flopped the first time
Jack Swagger flopped
The Miz flopped
Daniel Bryan got over without MITB
Cena was already established
Orton was already established
Sandow was buried for the entire time he had the MITB briefcase (but people only focus on the match with Cena)
Rollins was a flop but since he's Triple H's guy and fans being spiteful towards Roman, he still shoved down our throats to this day as if he was a success.
Sheamus was already established
Ambrose was already established from The Shield but his run as the World Champion was a flop
Baron Corbin was a flop
Braun Strowman was a flop
Lesnar was already established.
You could just list similar for royal rumble

Duggan flopped
Studd did nothing with it
Hogan already established
Hogan already established
Flair was already established and back in WCW 12 months later
Yokozuna flopped as a draw
Luger flopped, Bret Hart already established
Shawn never became the draw they wanted
Austin pointless win in 97 seeing as he didn't get title shot at Mania
Austin in 98 a success
Vince winning was a joke
Rock already established
Austin already established
HHH already established
Brock already established
Benoit flopped as a drawing star
Batista success but was injured plagued and left business 5 years later
Mysterio treated like a jobber after winning title
Undertaker already established
Cena already established
Orton already established and they killed his momentum at mania
Edge already established
Del Rio flopped
Sheamus flopped
Cena already established
Batista already established
Reigns winning made sure hardcore male segment hated him
HHH already established
Orton already established
Nakamura flopped
Rollins already established

Punks not becoming the star he did without first winning mitb. Zero fucking chance. Yes they treated him like crap first time but it got his foot in door and second time they were much more determined to book him as top star including maineventing Summerslam over Cena, HHH, Batista in 2009.

Bryan remains lower midcard forever if he never wins mitb. I love Bryan but let's be realistic. Winning mitb allowed him to be in high profile matches and get his yes/no delusional heel gimmick over. That's not working if he is opening card act losing in 30 seconds nightly to sin cara black or del Rio.

Rollins is far from a flop. Dude has only been singles mainevent act for just over 5 years and mainevented more shows drawing 10,000+ fans than Savage, Kane or Sting. Without mitb run it's arguable whether his career matches more closely Justin Gabriel of Nexus than someone who is already shoe in hall of famer at 33

Oh please, stick with the original concept, this time with two participants from each brand. The winner can cash it to every championship that she or he wants.

I think we might see a multi-man Ladder Match for a mid-championship at this year’s WrestleMania. We’ve already seen three of them in a row in the last five years. Bryan and Ryder both won the Intercontinental Title this way, and The Hardy’s won the Raw Tag Team Titles this way. Each of those championship wins made for memorable WrestleMania moments and that’s exactly what this event’s all about. Andrade and Mysterio already had a United States Title Ladder Match on Raw earlier this year, and are currently joined by Garza and Carrillo in their program. WWE could easily build towards another United States Title Ladder Match but for WrestleMania 36 with superstars like them, Ricochet, Black, etc. in the picture. It would be more beneficial for them to be on the card in a high-profile match as opposed to the pre-show in a pointless Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

Great post. I agree with all of these. Ziggler had a great moment when he won, but that was his career highlight and now he's just another guy.
Swagger giving him that concussion ruined everything.

I can’t believe I forgot to list Ziggler but at the same time, he was already a World Champion (for 3 minutes) before he won the briefcase

They can do away with MITB all together...or at least reduce it to being an attraction every 3 or 4 years. MITB has been played out for well over a decade.

Sure MITB lead Bryan to the World Heavyweight Championship but the fans were the ones who saved Bryan in the end. WWE showed how much they valued Bryan when they chose to have Sheamus squash him in the opening match at WrestleMania. If the fans wouldn't have reacted the way they did to that 18 second Match, Bryan most likely would've been another Jack Swagger.

Rollins World Title Reign in 2015 was a massive flop. The Roman hate was at its peak so they would cheer anything that would go against him and when it was time to see how Rollins would be presented as a World Champion, he was trash. Not only did he held the title way too long but the ratings also dropped around that time compared to the previous year. If Rollins wasn't Triple H's guy and the fans weren't just cheering for anybody who went against Roman, Rollins would've been in the same territory as The Miz right now and rightfully so because he is not Main Event Material. Also when has WWE ever treated Kane as THE guy?

My slightly controversial, but not really controversial because most will probably agree, opinion is that not only should it be one match but it should go back to being a part of WrestleMania rather than being it's own themed PPV. The battle royal matches can fuck off.

My actually controversial opinion is that they should get rid of MITB all together. The matches themselves are fun and the cash ins are nice moments but they're ultimately a lazy way to put the title on someone without building them up and that rarely works and that hurts the status of the title. We've had The Miz, Jack Swagger and Dolph Ziggler thrust into spots they weren't ready for and their reigns sucked.

Dude is a huge flop. He's worked with Cena, Orton, Lesnar, Sting, HHH, Reigns, etc. held the championship for months on end and yet still barely feels like any bigger of a star now than he did when he first started main eventing. When they put you over Lesnar clean twice and yet still give up on you and turn you heel a couple months later, that's saying something.

Throwing out a random stat like how many shows drawing 10,000+ fans he headlined means nothing. Who was he working with at those shows? Was he literally the main event, or sometimes just the co-main event? Last I checked both times he was champion (in 2015 and 2019), his average attendance at house shows was some of the lowest in history.

No thanks 1 for men and 1 for women is fine. If it was just men's like the old days then sure.

But four or three mitb matches are too much.

No. If anything there should be four: 1 men’s, 1 women’s, 1 men’s tag, and 1 women’s tag. Have one MITB match at Wrestlemania, two MITB matches at Money in the Bank and one MITB match at TLC. Winner can go for any belt. And rotate accordingly to keep it fresh.
