The Miami Herald has an interview with Shawn Michael. Here are some highlights.

Leaving WWE: “I walked away from an extremely well paying job, which is probably not the smartest thing to do, but I did it solely to come home and to help my wife raise our children, to be a part of their lives. WWE would have allowed me to work any kind of way that I wanted. I could have very easily have said, ‘Hey, I’d like to slow down over the next couple of years, do a few things here and there,’ and I think everybody would have been fine with that, but for me, I think that would have probably been harder on me. Personally, I think the job would be harder for me to do, personally, on a semi, here and there, in and out type basis.

“It’s easier, and I think I’m better at it when I’m doing it or I’m not. So for me I felt it was better to walk away completely.”

Returning to the ring: “You have to be careful because if you leave it as an open option, you’re going to be getting calls on a regular basis. Every time somebody gets injured or every time somebody comes up with an idea, the phone is going to be ringing, and you’re going to have to deal with ‘should I or shouldn’t I?’ I didn’t want to run into that. I didn’t want to put myself through that, and I didn’t want to put the company through that.

“I’m certainly not going to wrestle, but if you need me for something, if you’re in a bind, you can give me a buzz, and I’ll be more than happy to be there and help out any way I can.”

Being a part of WrestleMania 28 with Undertaker and Triple H: “For me, it was about three of us who have been there — for the most part — the longest of anybody and probably the last of the Mohicans, so to speak. It was three guys who had been sharing that locker-room for a long time, doing this in some form or another, whether it was me and Hunter, me and Taker, Taker and Hunter. The three of us have run the gamut of being in and out of the ring with each other and going through ups and downs, personally and professionally, and this is the last time the three of us will be in the ring together. That’s what the End of an Era was to me.”
It was truly the End of an Era, Respect!

The "official retirement" is the biggest BS in wrestling. What's HBK's problem to come back and work WM29 with Rock for example(in general, not specifically Rock, we don't know if Rock even wants it)? "Oh I did a fake stipulation, now I can't do it" GTFO. If he was going away completely? like never doing another TV or something, or can't physically wrestle? that's fine, but it's obviously not the case. My problem is more with the concept than with HBK BTW.

He should come back to feud with Bryan, student vs. teacher. That would be great, imo. That'd be the only thing I'd care to see him return for, there really is nothing else that would be a point in him being back other than his name value on a PPV.

Respect for sticking to his retirement, as his career was already perfect with an amazing closure and there's no need for any new chapter. That being said I hope Shawn comes back here and there, maybe takes over his old commissioner spot or sth, strictly non-wrestling...

The fake stipulation was there because he was done. Not the other way around. Wrestlers aren't banned from retiring for good just because there are still ways Vince can use them to make money.

Shawn's my favourite IR competitor of all-time and i would fucking love to see him wrestle again, but i'm glad he is sticking to his retirement plans. Sure, if he comes back i won't complain. It would have to be a one-off massive matchup that would be worth returning for though. Even then, it will feel wrong to some extent.

HBK should return for some big money programs. Why not a feud with Bryan, Punk, HHH or Rock? He'd be giving back to the company that gave him so much.

I just don't see what he has to offer anymore--it isn't as if he's been gone for 8 years (like the Rock) and we want to know if he still has it. Is there an actual dream match for this guy to come back for? From most of the lists I've seen the answer is no. Yeah, maybe his name gets thrown around occasionally for a match we'd like to see, but nothing that's going to blow anyone's mind. HBK vs Bryan or Punk is really the best you can do that we haven't already seen. But If he wins, then WWE are assholes for letting the "older guys bury talent" and if he loses, then the IWC Indy guys beat up the 46 year old and we'll get an emotional re-retiring. Exciting.

He won't be wrestling again, I believe that, but he can't stay away either. We'll be seeing him on the 1000th Raw for sure.
