Sean Waltman was interviewed by WrestleTalk this week and of his quotes got some people talking. Waltman said, “Don’t get me wrong, there were times when I was selfish. I didn’t let anybody walk on me when I came back to WWF. I was more equipped to say, `I’m not fucking doing that, that sucks.’ Guys need to start doing a little more. I might get heat for saying this, but they need to start saying that.”

The feeling in WWE is that most of the talent is walking on eggshells and they are afraid to speak up. I see what Waltman is saying but in the 80s and 90s when someone spoke up, management would have been more receptive to ideas and they were less likely to fire someone for speaking up out of fear that a talent could sign with the competition. Now, most of the wrestlers don’t have anywhere else to go unless they are willing to take a big pay cut from what they are making now.

Check out a clip from the interview below:

He's fucking spot on.

The Kliq were pricks but they at least had the fucking bottle to go to Vince in 1995 and tell him the product sucked and that things needed to change. Apparently, HBK, HHH and Shane McMahon pulled Vince aside and gave him some home truths in 1997 as well and told him basically "change or the WWF dies".
This is exactly what the likes of Orton, Cena, The Shield boys and the others with pull need to be doing to VInce and that fuckhead Dunn in the present. Going in mob handed and getting those 2 told that what they are doing is wrong, it is costing them ratings, it is hurting the WWE's reputation and WILL cost the WWE money eventually, that they are complacent and behind the times and that they are flat out putting on a bad product that is selling both the fans and the wrestlers short.

They can still speak out, just not too much and not like how the Kliq did back in the day. Like the story said, no place for them to go and make close to the same money. That being said, if enough left or were fired and went to one company be it RoH, TNA, Jarrett's GFW or maybe even another company that is around now or in the near future they could help boost that company to a higher level and eventually bigger paychecks. It is a matter of what is more important to the guys, paycheck or being proud of the company you work with.

If they do go speak up it can not be "I will not job to so and so" or "I need a better push" but be about how the product has got stagnant and stale and they need something to shake things up. Avoid knocking certain segments, after all they may be ones Vince is in love with, and talk in general terms.

Yeah, take advice from a guy who hitched his backstage influence to Nash and Michaels' aura.

He's absolutely right. If MORE people did it, then you'd see some changes. You can say "well you'll get buried/fired" but they can't do that to everyone. Have each others fucking backs. Vince respects people who have balls, as long as they deliver on what they claim. That's the REAL issue with this roster. They talk shit, but few of them can actually back it up with a performance.

Besides, WWE is so mortified of a bad headline after Punk humiliated them. Guys/girls have more freedom than they think.

Lol these guys have no leverage whatsoever

Speaking up is a quick way to burial and unemployment
I agree with that, and I was gonna say this too, however if you listen to the context he's saying it within the video, he's pretty much saying those that can do it a little really, basically the established talents ... who say nothing at all, and where as I agree, that doing this too much is career suicide, it seems as though none of them, even the one's who are established, say this and are just like 'Yes Vince' all the time.

That's why he says 'If you have talent' and you know ... because basically, the WWE won't fire you so easily if you're an incredibly gifted athlete, and lets say if you are and deserve that little bit more or to not be degraded ... then, maybe just say a little something, is what I think he's getting at.

But yeah, I agree with you, if talents started doing this too much and getting a bit too big for their boots with it, they will get buried and replaced very quickly, so they do need to be careful, but I don't think Sean meant it as direct as that, after watching the video, it came across different, as I did read your comment first and then the video, and it's slightly different in regards to the context I think if you watch :)

This coming from Waltman, who spent most of his career when there was competition and another big company to jump to. Nevermind that he was part of The Kliq, which consisted of most of Vince's few good talents at the time. So what does he know? Waltman on his own in this era would be Fandango or Dolph Ziggler AT BEST.

Yeah they should start speaking up more but then again that would lead to losing streak and then a simple unemployment added to boot. I get what Sean Waltman is saying but he needs to remember his generation was a lot different than the current one. Back then you can give your honest input into your matches unlike in the current era.

when you had options of already being a wrestler back in the day for a decade and ecw and wcw were around , yes you would. these guys do not have options unless they can fight in real life ie ufc or can actually act. we know how petty wwe is towards people....they bury people who get themselves over and make them extra money. imagine not being super over and making them a ton of merch money and trying to get out of a stupid gimmick.....good luck
