I've no idea if his creepy gimmick would've worked on anyone, let alone moved the needle. But am I the only one that looks at another member on TNA's roster and sees a missed opportunity for this particular character idea?

If TNA was so adamant on using a roster member to play a character based off of Patrick Bateman and Dexter Morgan, why not Davey Richards? Many have compared not just his in-ring style, but some of his in-character statements to Dynamite Kid and the infamous Chris Benoit. Much like Benoit and NFL star Wes Welker, both of whom had/have a long history of concussion issues, he can display a glassy, empty look in his eyes in which some fans have (jokingly?) warned that Richards will one day murder someone.

In addition, those who watched ROH several years back may remember a brief period during his time as part of the No Remorse Corps stable. For a few months, he was the socially awkward member of the trio, constantly being mocked by Roderick Strong and Rocky Romero for consistently striking out with women, and Richards telling himself pathetically "I'm gonna get laid."

So imagine Richards as the Samuel Shaw type of character, dressed similarly to Dexter. Outside the ring, he stalks women and doesn't pick up on their subtle hints, leading to him being ostracized. Perhaps even going after Velvet Sky and pissing off Chris Sabin in the process, leading to a series of nice undercard matches between them. Once Richards steps into that ring, he turns off any attempts at being social and turns into a very cold, calculating wrestler, all business in the ring and not playing to the crowd, and winning the feud against Sabin to put over what a truly dangerous motherfucker he really is.

Again, I'm not saying this would've worked. But I do wonder if there was a missed opportunity. One look no farther than imagining if Vince McMahon had given his Undertaker gimmick idea to anyone but Mark Calloway.

what is wrong with how Shaw is playing this? I think Shaw has been great. I was skeptical in the beginning because I've never seen Dexter and that type of character on TV doesn't really interest me, but I think what Shaw has been doing has been really good. the storyline with how he is obsessed with Christy has worked.

I'm wondering where this goes next. does he keep being interested in Christy? and if so does someone else come to feud with Shaw other than Anderson? or maybe Shaw gets interested in another female.

What's wrong is that you are part of a lowest common denominator minority in enjoying it. Richards has shown many examples of being a creep both in character and off-screen that I believe he would be better suited for this type of gimmick.

You want to cast one of the wolves as a psychopath? Don't get me wrong, they're amazing wrestlers. But they can't act worth shit, seriously they look like 1st year rookies who just happen to be naturals in the ring.

I don't think it is a lowest common denominator that enjoys Shaw either by the way; i think people like that it's something different. Just because you don't like something that other people enjoy doesn't make it a lower form of entertainment.

When you take into account that Shaw went from being an artistic skater babyface from Jacksonville Beach to what he is now, I have to say that he was cast perfectly.

Seriously though, due to how seriously prevalent concussions and other traumatic head injuries have been in wrestling and football, making the bolded section as part of a storyline would be in really poor taste, OP.

That's the TNA audience though, not exactly a high caliber fanbase.
The fanbase for wrestling for the most part is people who suspend their disbelief and get into the product rather than jaded people sitting on the internet.

Getting over is getting over, if they're happy to see it they're happy to see it.
You could write the perfect storyline with mystery, intrigue, intense promo's, titles on the line and ***** matches, but at the end of the day, if nobody gives a shit about it, then ultimately, it failed.

Davey Richards can't act. Look at what they've had him do since coming to TNA and check out the times he's had to act. Appalling Actor and his strong suit is definitely in ring.

Shaw is okay but the story line is way too drawn out and he needs to move onto someone else. They made him look very dumb yesterday and the longer he stays in this Anderson feud the more it hurts him.

He also has to do something truly psychotic soon as well.

The problem isn't with the casting or the acting, it's the awful writing. From the horrendous suicide tease at Lockdown, to getting suspending for cutting Hemme's hair (even though assaulting and choking out people backstage is perfectly fine) and the awful PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES van crap they pulled last night, it's been bad.

You've got Anderson making light of suicide, sexual attempt, attempted rape, mental illness, etc. every other week, completely tasteless crap used for comedic effect in a way that apparently only wrestling fans can accept, and then to top it off, they've only been having shitty matches through this whole feud.

Yeah but TNA was a lot more popular back when they used to put on those great matches. Watch a match from 2004-2007 and listen to how crazy the crowds used to get. Just because they chant creepy bastard at Shaw doesn't mean they like what they're seeing.

Davey can't act. Not even a little. He also doesn't look anything like an intelligent, artistic psycho. Shaw, however, has impressed me; his mannerism in character are well...creepy. Now if they'd just stop making him look like the easily-duped whipping boy and more like a raging nutjob with a calm exterior he'd be perfect.

Samuel Shaw is imo the biggest surprise of the year. Given what he was doing before and the way he's pulling this off I'll say he was perfectly cast. Let's just hope the mannequin was a one night only type of thing cause the line between sinister and creepy and ridiculously pathetic is a very thin one

Samuel Shaw is perfect for this role, but having him play this character in a Dr Jeckyl/Mr Hyde type role would have lead to a much more intriguing story line in the long run.
Davey Richards is a very good wrestler but his acting skills is way behind his in ring skills and he could not pull this character off even remotely as good as Shaw has.
