You want all those guys out of a job?
The industry was better with a thriving indie scene than AEW scooping up all the natural talent with a coked out trust fund baby doing a worse version of it.

And miss me with that "you want people out of jerbs" the talented people will get hired elsewhere And the check stealers won't end of story

I always pay for them on fite tv in the UK...they are about £15 so not expensive at all. I could stream them but I'm a sucker and like to pay for stuff I enjoy

This show had zero build imo so I'm not surprised the buyrate was down - I didn't even know there was a pov until the week before when they had it on the Tron. I'm a fan and I had no clue so not surprised buys were down - plus a 60 min iron man match isn't good on paper

😂😂😂😂 too fucking rich. That's what happened when you put on a shit product and lose the one guy that actually brought in new viewers. In all seriousness too while it is not doom and gloom for AEW, Tony Khan should at least look at the noticeably drop compared to last years butyrate and likewise post ppv tv rating and think "what can I do to actually get back to that level".

Your concern for their business is touching, for sure, and obviously they're not hot right now as a promotion, but not adding new buyers? New buyers of what? They announced a DAZN deal a couple of months ago, and an ESPN one since then. Don't make stuff up to further your half-assed argument about the financial state of this private company.
Holy fuck, new domestic PPV buyers are you illiterate? Nobody is making stuff up. The context was not international rights buyers, you goalpost moving midget. You're just bringing in extraneous facts to further your shillmanship.

It seems you've talked yourself out of your own argument into something else. Good job.
And he gets caught.

I can’t remember last years event - I have the memory of a gold fish.

But this year was just brilliant.

Even the harshest critic must acknowledge how AEW consistently delivers with ppvs. It’s a shame people aren’t watching.

more evidence that popularity does not equal quality.

That's because the leading to the PPV sucked. As long as TK doesn't get that "just matches" is not the way, his problems will never be solved. Pro Wrestling is Story + Matches. The stories his company told were not compelling. That's why wrestling can be the greatest thing when you tell an amazing story where the build up is great and you cannot wait to see the clash happen. That's how you put butts in the seats or eyes on the product. I have seen many matches that were not workrate marvels but they were so well build and hyped that the wrestlers would do one move and the people thought it was the greatest thing. Like Andre vs Hogan. The most memorable titanic match up of all time. And it was mainly Andre giving Hogan bear hugs and power slams. But nobody thought it was boring cause they were so invested in these characters, in the story it was telling.

Imagine if the good work rate you had at Rebellion had been backed by great stories, it would have been phenomenal. That's why I wish Tony would just go all out and offer someone like Paul Heyman a guarden of green, spare no expenses, pay him and bring him in to book for AEW. He knows how to create stories and generating heat. Imagine what he could do with MJF. AEW has the production and the horses and the money, all that's left is good storytelling.

It's been clear since Full Gear 2021 that PPV's are not there priority. The weekly television show is.

Which given the weekly television show is very inconsistent is pretty worrying.

You’re bringing up context while ignoring the fact that the OP is framing their PPV buys as if they are the companies sole means of income, building off them to talk about how they shouldn’t be increasing their payroll :ROFLMAO:

Maybe making stuff up was less accurate an accusation than ‘trying to use a downturn in fortunes in a single revenue stream to act like the sky is falling and the business practices of an entire organisation are out of control’.

Pointing out the blithering idiocy of such an argument doesn’t make a person a shill, and when that’s the argument you’re trying to make then the bringing up of other facts to illuminate the stupidity of what you’re trying to make out is hardly extraneous.

No argument from me ... funny you bring up hogan v Andre. I rate that as the best match of all time.

Great stories and characters will always outperform great wrestling. And having both is the goal.

There are fans like me, who watch regardless of build. But to draw more people in … it’s about story (Starcade 97).

Having said that, I don’t have a problem with their ppv build - because I enjoy their weekly shows, their characters and even their stories. But I can step back and see that is doesn’t suit others. EG If they announced Kenny vs Cole for the next ppv with no build, I would be amped, but others wouldn’t.

I think the buyrate is still pretty good and close to the 2021 show, which is surprising considering the poor build to Revolution 2023. In terms of growth nationally I think they already hit their ceiling and the TV ratings will be hovering around the 800000-1.1 mio mark. They have a huge roster, but I don´t think most of them have huge contracts or even have guaranteed contracts, so I doubt they are in the reds because of the payroll.
AEW will be building their International market which will grow their revenues through live shows and tv rights so it´s unlikely that they will go down anytime soon.

well i can agree with your first point. WWE was scooping up the talent from the indies before AEW.

But atleast Tony lets the guys work indies.

It's ironic that this company's shittieness has skyrocketed since punk came in. The black plague leaving his mark everywhere he goes. Come on Tony Shake it off.
It is kind of funny (ironic) how Punk went from ‘our guy, our savior, the man who gets us and has come to AEW to defeat the evil empire’ to ‘the man whose heart is darker than a thousand midnights’ with the AEW fan base.

If we do end up a reality where Punk returns and Kenny and/or the Bucks leave (for WWE, New Japan, wherever) … gonna be interesting times.

That will say a lot about the mentality and state of aew in a bad way.

I mean there isn't much to say, the product isn't as good as it was.

The build was lacking compared to last year's AEW ppvs. Only two matches properly built were MJF/Bryan and Hangman/Mox. Everything else was mediocre... Except Jungleboy vs Christian but the christian injury kind of prolonged it but atleast it was still relevant.

This thought process is not helping the Indy scene , wishing death on Aew to help it is counterproductive. When people were doing this with tna in 2014 with new Japan, the Indy sce my first thought was fuck the Indy scene, new Japan and fuck roh. Prevented me from watching more of those companies.

Same thing now with the Indy scene, I know think fuck the Indy scene and I won’t watch it. If Aew goes under I will watch porn or more anime instead of replacing it with those options.

The indies are okay as they are now.
