Reason Why WWE Booked Karaoke Segment On SmackDown This Week

WWE Friday Night SmackDown included a segment this week that didn’t hit the mark with a lot of fans. Naomi, Dana Brooke, Lacey Evans, and Tamina took part in a Karaoke Battle hosted by Jey Uso. Why did this happen?

Naomi spoke out about segment already. She stated that the women in WWE are “fighting” for better. She also apologized for the segment. A lot of fans seemed triggered by WWE’s use of the women in this way.
Ringside News has learned that WWE had intentions with this segment, and none of them were to set the Women’s Evolution back. Three short phrases were given to us that should explain why Vince McMahon went this direction

The reasons for the segment were “we tell stories,” “it’s good entertainment,” and “it’s not just another match.” It might sound simplistic in nature, and some would love a deeper meaning, but sometimes content is presented to simply entertain.
We also spoke with a source in the company who admitted: “That segment was embarrassing.”

Some weren’t happy about Lacey Evans wrestling shoeless in a dress either. The women in WWE fought hard to be called Superstars. The argument is that they should be presented as athletes, but that wasn’t apparent on SmackDown this week. There was no malice behind it.
Any chance to get on television is treasured, and the women made the most out of the segment. Naomi even commented on Instagram that they tried to make chicken salad out of chicken sh*t.
Lacey Evans also turned heel during the segment, but that was a side benefit. She was convinced her rendition of Jeff Jarrett’s (actually Road Dogg) “With My Baby Tonight” was better than Naomi’s “Common Man.” On that note, we also exclusively reported that there were intentions behind WWE using Dusty Rhodes’ theme song this week.

To be honest I feel like these situations are blown out of proportion a bit with the women.

WWE loves to book garbage regardless of gender, look at the dumb shit Big Show, Ambrose, Miz, etc have done, look at how many times Ziggler has had 'shit' dumped on him, or Strowman knocking over a porta-potty with Owens inside.

Vince looks dumb, terrible shit that only he and his yes men find in any way, shape or form entertaining.

Really? she´s a singer? not a very good one then..
But yeah, the segment was dumb, and if they´re gonna have pointless segments like that, then make it a bikini contest or something - many of the female wrestlers post bikini shoots on their Instagram anyways, so it´s not like they´re afraid to wear and show it.

Don't see the sexism angle at all. Women have been very heavily featured recently, Charlotte was on every show in the biggest angle until she went off with injury, Sasha, Bayley, Alexa and especially Nikki are on every fucking show. They main evented last night.

It's not like the men don't get trash segments either. Look at the absolute shit the Street Profits and Viking Raiders were doing for weeks on end culminating in that horrific cinematic match.

You could also say Naomi singing Dusty Rhoads theme song is a jab at AEW and Cody. Cody has been fighting for the rights to use Dusty's named ppvs and project. I don't know if his dads theme song is one he's fighting for but there's a plethora of other themes they could have picked and they chose Dusty's

“it’s good entertainment,” and “it’s not just another match.”

How about have them in a bikini contest then? that would be entertainment and not just another match, and hey there would actually be a huge chunk of people who would thoroughly enjoy it, instead of literally everyone hating it like they did with that shit karaoke segment. Plus its summertime, so a bikini contest would actually make sense, unlike a random ass karaoke segment just because.
