... Jim Ross was fired, according to Wade Keller at pwtorch.

Does this mean something, or is it just coincidence?

I remember reading somewhere that Raw ratings are normally high in the beginning, dip about 30% during the middle and is its highest at the end. Obvious reasons why, I just think the timing of JR firing was coinciding with people tuning in and out to see the important stuff.

Or people were just furious for having to hear 16.67% more Michael Cole. Your choice.

What was happening on the other channels?
No idea, but if I'm not mistaken, 9-10 is a primetime TV spot. not sure on 10-11 though.(EST)

Ratings went down because John Cena was not in the second hour.
I bet, everybody had finished watching the show and then they thought "Hey, wait a minute, John Cena was not in the second half of the show!". Then they all got into their time machines and travelled back to the end of the first hour and stopped watching RAW.

they went down when people realized it was the status quo again, back to thrown together random matches, the uniqueness of the first half hour was no more.
