BACKSTORY

The background of my WCW / NWA project is heavily incumbent upon the downfall of the World Wrestling Federation which begins in 1997, after the suffered heart attack and unexpected death of the company's Chairman of the Board, Vince McMahon. With his kids still very young, the grieving widow Linda takes over the majority stock of the company, but the ensuing battle with a much more popular WCW proves to be just too much for what was, at one time, professional wrestling's alpha dog promotion...

The WWF eventually becomes bankrupt and is sold to Turner Entertainment for a third of it's estimated value at the beginning of the year 1999. Slowly, yet surely, the McMahon's begin to drift away from the world of pro wrestling.

WCW hires Jim Cornette on as their head booker, as the company begins re-establishing it's past relationship with the National Wrestling Alliance, as well as attempting to transition their product with the sudden influx of former WWF talent. What happens next becomes the dream of bookers the world over. Undertaker vs. Sting, Goldberg vs. Steve Austin; nWo vs. D-Generation X. While this invasion angle wasn't without it's own flaws in comparison to it's real life counterpart, the angle corresponds with a now burgeoning boom for the business within American pop-culture. The company becomes rich beyond it's wildest dreams, but suddenly, things take a turn for the worse...

Turner Entertainment and World Championship Wrestling soon find themselves under fire in a highly publicized steroid investigation that finds itself going all the way to the United States Supreme Court. By the end of 2002, Ted Turner is found guilty of not only personally supplying his wrestlers with illegal steroids, but for a lengthy history of tax evasion, too.

With a great legal team and plenty of ass-smooching testimony, Turner receives a minor sentence in jail, but it's enough to enforce he and his subsidiaries to sell off their ownership of WCW to the highest bidder. In the hopes of keeping the now biggest wrestling promotion (as well as the business itself) alive, two men band their resources together to purchase the now besmirched company - Dusty Rhodes and of course, Jim Cornette.

With both Cornette and Rhodes now running the show, the WCW soon works it's way back into the hearts of pro wrestling fans with some of the best competition we've seen in years. The relationship between botn WCW and NWA becomes even tighter with the unfortunate Turner Steroid Scandal, and having Jim Cornette as part-owner certainly doesn't hurt this perception.

As the promotion attempts to grow into the next phase of it's life, esteemed performers Chris Jericho, Brock Lesnar, Adam "The Edge" Copeland, Randy Orton and John Cena now become the faces of this new generation. And so, our story begins...
