What the hell has Jon Moxley done this year to be #8

 

Probably his IWGP title reign, given this is kayfabe.

 

I would give Gunther the #1 spot. This guy would be great in any wrestling promotion.

 

He's probably not higher up because he just won the World title at SummerSlam, if he was at the top of the card all year I'm sure he'd be in the top 5.

 

It's better than these things usually are. Though Mistico should clearly be higher.

No because they stopped listing the best wrestlers so its pointless to even pay attention to the smarky nonsense these lists have become 😂

 

LA Knight has done a hell of a lot more despite being booked like a jobber to get over and be a merch seller than idiots like Rollins or Damian Priest ever did. Damian Priest being in any top list is ridiculous.

Priest makes sense to be here. Dude had a 4 month world title reign, was constantly a focal point of the show as just about the leader of JD, and rarely lost in the last year or so.

 

The list is meh. The top 10 is ok but Darby being 97 when he had the awesome run with Sting is dumb. Joe Hendry is higher than the likes of Bronn Breaker, Randy Orton, etc

And the biggest travesty of all is Toni Storm not being #1 on the female list

 

Regardless of what I think of the list...they know that at the time of their print there was four plus months left of 2024.

Roman Reigns hasn't done shit this year except play the background player to The Rock. He's almost never there, why would he be top 10 let alone #1?

PWI 500 is a kayfabe list. Means they are ranked based on winning matches and holding titles

 

Then why is Will Ospreay 7 spots ahead of Gunther? Gunther has won more matches, Gunther has won more titles/accolades, Gunther has held titles for longer and Gunther has held bigger titles.

Criteria doesn't make a lot of sense.

This is based on kayfabe accomplishments meaningless and won't argue too much .
But if they made actual top 10 based on how impactful on the show Drew McIntyre, CM Punk,Liv Morgan and Dominik should have been on the list of top 10

 

Everyone at PWI knuckle dragged their way from a tiny gene pool.

 

It’s based kayfabe achievements. Priest had the world title for four months. So it does make sense he’s there.

 

I just dont understand why is Gunther so low on the list if this is kayfabe-based? The guy almost never loses any match at all.

 

It takes into account place on the card as well, and while Gunther has been dominant he's also been a midcard guy for most of the last year, it was only recently he stepped up to the main event.

To probably add to other’s points without reading this thread:

• How is Moxley in there?
• Why is Rollins so high?
• Where is Drew?
• Where is Danielson?

Otherwise the Top 2-3 I wouldn’t argue with.

 

I can answer some of those questions,

Moxley is there because he was IWGP champion and Meltzer will give that a major boost to put him higher on the list.

Rollins is there because he was pretty much a workhorse world champion in the WWE who defend his belt a lot and won, also main evented night 1 of Mania which is a big deal so Kayfabe wise he did have a great year last year.

Drew's year wasn't great in terms of kayfabe, he lost a lot and really only had one or two major wins within the timeframe of June 2023 and June 2024(pre MiTB too)

Danielson has lost most of his big matches, it was part of the story going into All In after all and well this list doesn't take All In into account as it's from June 2023 to June 2024

 

I think Gunther should definitely be higher.

No issues with Cody being number one with it being a kayfabe honour. Rumble winner, finished the story etc etc.

Swerve being second is really cool and a pretty big deal.

 

I think these PWI 500 used to be cool back when I was a kid, just to learn about all the different wrestlers from around the world but the internet certainly makes it less interesting
