Question aimed at the historians here. Obviously we are all aware of the 80's and 90's booms, but what I'm curious about here is other wrestlers that have managed to cause a major spike in popularity. I'm aware of what Santo and Rikidozen did for their respective countries and what I've read on Gorgeous George also indicates that his introduction to many of the heel tactics we see today caused a spike in popularity for wrestling. There's obviously the early days of Gotch and Hackenschmidt as well.

Not really interested in guys that just maintained it when it was already popular and didn't really move the needle. Thank to all in advance.
