So I came across the Observer and they mentioned an interesting point. Basically, the WWE's mission today is brand push not push wrestlers. This explains why there's a bipolar win loss column, and evidence that noone had been massively over in the push category since Cena. This is by design. Not an accident. Look what happened to Bryan. Russive, etc. WWE feels its brand is the marquee and selling point. Their PPVs like Mania and Saudi Arabia are now their selling point not the talent. They don't want the company to rely on any major stars in fear also of losing what they invest in them if they end up leaving to cinema or to say AEW.

This is pretty sad. What are your thoughts?

This is simply a reiteration of points already known, basically, WWE is a brand that sells itself regardless of who's on top. Meanwhile live attendance, network subscriptions and tv viewership are on a downward trend because 'We listen to our fans and give them what they want' :Vince

It's pretty obvious Wrestlemania and the Saudi shows are the only real canon shows in WWE at this point. The rest of the year they just coast and put in zero effort.

It's like they want Wrestlemania to be the Superbowl. But to them the football season and the Superbowl itself are completely irrelevant and given zero importance while expecting the Superbowl to sell on commercials and half time show alone...

I think the premise is bullshit and they would love another Cena or Rock. In fact, they'd love to have the original Cena or Rock.
I agree, they would, with the caveat that the next Cena/Rock (or indeed the originals) would be so loyal to their lord and master Vincent Kennedy McMahon that they never leave his cult of a wrestling promotion, never make a movie outside of his tinpot production company and never utter a word of dissent while carrying out media duties (just listen to Cena's appearance on Chris Hardwick's ID10T podcast for a prime example of this).

I understand why Vince doesn't want to rename Raw the Hulk Hogan/Steve Austin/John Cena/Roman Reigns show but what he needs to remember is that there are fans of wrestling who will tune in to see the wrestlers they like. By shifting the focus from the stars to the brand they have created a situation where, since nobody matters more than anyone else, nobody matters AT ALL.

I thought that was obvious for years? They don't want to build a larger than life star only for him/her to go away to Hollywood.

Some people still don't actually believe it. Despite all the signs pointing to this being true: 50/50 booking, choosing dull wrestlers with no charisma as top stars, spitting in the fans faces for years, punishing guys for being talented enough to get over without permission, etc... - still, you don't hear about that enough. Podcasters, wrestling journalists and fans in general don't mention the company's view on this. Everyone reviews shows like they expect them to actually deliver and be decent, when in reality the WWE itself doesn't want to produce some high quality product. THEY. DON'T. WANT. STARS.

Roman was supposed to be the next Cena/Rock but the fans rejected him. If there was someone who could do it, there would be. Right now there’s nobody on the roster with the charisma to do what those guys did.
Not entirely accurate. Bryan is by far the most charismatic wrestler they have on the roster. They have their heads up their a**es and spend most of their time building hacks like Rollins, Reigns, Lynch and Charlotte.
