Ok just watching Raw at home after a 24 hour drinking session with my mate in London! Great show, very weird watching it live after 20 years of watching WWF/WWE. Here are my thoughts from last night as I watch the show:
We were sat about 6 rows behind the cole mine (by the troll face sign, amazing!) and the atmosphere was great, struck up loads of conversations with Ryder fans, WWWYKI! There were also a good 10 or 15 Ryder signs in the crowd including my Darth Vader one! Loads of kids, loads of parents but a lot of marks and people nearer my age too, everyone around us was talking dirt sheets, Ryder's youtube vids etc!
First match was Primo vs Percy Watson. Primo cut a little promo like saying there was no respect for him etc, Percy came out and hardly anyone knew who he was. Crappy 5 minute match with the gayest finisher ever courtesy of Percy (like a standing twisting flip thing, terrible). Primo was over as a heel but the crowd couldn't be less interested in Percy Watson.
Next match was Superstars but there were no commentators for both matches (???). Natalya and Maryse (Maryse is so fucking hot in person, unbelievably smoking hot), another crappy match and you could hear a pin drop. Mark Henry & Dibiase were up next and it was a decent 10 minute match, couldn't believe it but Ted was playing the crowd really well, loads of boos and it gave me a bit of faith in Ted! Big love for JR when he came out (didn't expect him to be there so it was a nice surprise!) and Lawler too.
R Truth got booed the fuck out of the building, seriously really booed HEAVY! The tv show is heavily edited, there were twice as many boos as there were cheers and every time he talked he was booed, WWE have edited his entrance so badly! Trust me, the boos were deafening and only outdone by the boos for Cena. The Jo Mo/Truth segment looked awkward on tv but the crowd were really into it, and I'll be honest I didn't see Truth going heel but it worked really well live. The funniest thing about the match was loads of people shouting 'LETS GO TESCO, MORRISONS!' (Uk people will get it!). The segment did go on quite a long time but hey it was interesting. Starship Pain looked great live, he hit it perfectly too. Truth will make a great psycho heel, anything is better than that wigga shit.
Evan Bourne got a big reaction (from the kids) but that wasn't on tv. Ziggler is fucking huge in real life, like really massive! Good match, and a lot of the older crowd (me included) were chanting for Ziggler, he's a great in ring performer. It looked like Bourne and Vickie were trying not to laugh for real when they were talking. The dropkick counter by Dolph got a big reaction too, perfect spot!
Miz got a massive reaction, few boos but a LOT of cheers. When Miz goes face (its inevitable) he will be HUGE! He's got the catchphrase, he can sell merch and he's likeable. He played to the crowd perfectly all night, and the 'really? REALLY?' thing is really catching on. Great work by A-Ri too, the crowd reacted to both of them well. When Miz was on the mic the crowd didn't go mad when he said 'John Morrison', WWE piped that in for the show!
Sin Cara is really awkward in the ring, he just doesn't flow like Mysterio (in his prime). There was a bit where he grabbed Miz's hand and did something off the top rope, it felt like about 10 mins before he did anything, really awkward. The first thing he did was a botch too, when he jumped in the ring and kind of just bumped into Miz, terrible. The head scissors thing looked bad too, he hardly touched A-Ri. I'm sure he'll be big but after watching Mysterio in 2002/3 in Smackdown I can honestly say Sin Cara isn't as good. Cena got the biggest mixed reaction of the night, big boos from anyone over 10 and loads of children screaming about an octave higher! The kids love him, but fuck I cannot stand the gimmick now.
Diva match was terrible, I went to get more beer and I think a lot of people did the same. Can't wait til Kong comes and pulls some heads off. There was no noise, no cheers, no boos, nothing!
Sheamus also got a really mixed reaction, where we were sat everyone cheered him and there weren't many boos at all. Santino is really over with the kids but the adults were cheering Sheamus. The brogue kick also looks really good live, it looks like it could actually take your head off.
Punk and Orton also got loads of cheers, the place went bat shit crazy for Orton but all the marks went mad for Punk. MASSIVE 'Randy Orton, CM PUNK!' chants all the way through both matches. Punk played to the crowd loads, blowing kisses to them etc.
The dark match was Punk/Miz vs Cena/Orton, typical finish to send everyone home happy but Miz doing the Earthquake shake before a failed people's elbow was funny!
Anyway, as I said it was very weird watching the show live as there was a lot of standing around and delays in between segments. Loads of promos for the crappy new Orton film and the All Stars games. I would definitely recommend it though, definitely a good night!
