Since a good portion of their roster is missing they would have to put in the following you would think...

Okada
Naito
Ibushi
Tanahashi
Taichi
ZSJ
Suzuki
EBIR
SANADA
Shingo
Ishii
GOAT-o
Yano
Yoshi-hashi
Yujiro
Nagata? (can't remember if he's done with G1 or not)
Kojima? (same)

beyond that they have to start putting in juniors...

Kanemaru
SHOw
Desperationado
"Master" Wato

these are about the only guys that could believably be in it.

I wonder if maybe (small chance) they do a tiny G1 USA with 2 5 man fields or 1 10 man field.

When I break it down:

CHAOS:

1. Okada
2. Ishii
3. Goto
4. Yoshi
5. Yano
6. SHO

LIJ:

7. Naito
8. Shingo
9. Sanada
10. Hiromu

Suzuki Gun:

11. ZSJ
12. Taichi
13. Despy

Bullet Club:

14. Evil
15. Yujiro
16. Ishimori

Non Faction:

17. Tanahashi
18. Ibushi

There's 18 names that I see in there for sure. I'm not including Suzuki for now because he was left out last year. I don't know if his body can handle that anymore. You can fill the rest in with guys like Bushi, Wato, Kanemaru, etc.

I would guess that a couple of foreign guys will be allowed back by the start so here's hoping Ospreay and Jay White can return for this. I'd love for them to reach out to other Japanese organisations like they did with inclusion of Nakajima and Faramuji the other year as those 2 where awesome additions. They did have noah ownership back then so highly unlikely now.

I wonder if guys like Suzuki, Dick Togo and they can get Nagata and Kojima back for 1 last tournament. Would rather 4 older guys than bulking out with lower Jr's. Although, Taguchi could be a fun addition, especially if it Same block as Yano.

I think the only juniors that could be believable in this are...SHO, Desperado, Hiromu, and MAYBE "Master" Wato and MAYBE Taguchi. Any other juniors would feel out of place. I second that they should try to get Sprey and White but I kind of doubt they will be there considering it's only a month away, I don't see any drastic changes to the world in that time that would allow movement out of country.

I'm somewhat surprised that they didn't make it smaller, like 8 people per block.

Anyway, who I got for sure from heavyweights:

1. Okada
2. Goto
3. Ishii
4. Yoshi
5. Yano
6. Evil
7. Naito
8. Shingo
9. Sanada
10. Taichi
11. ZSJ
12. Tanahashi
13. Ibushi
14. Kojima
15. Makabe

Only 5 missing, if Japan opens up travel from New Zealand then you can add Fale, Henare and White. I'm not sure if any juniors will be in it.

I can see the 20 participants this year being:
  • Okada
  • Goto
  • Ishii
  • Yoshi
  • Yano
  • Evil
  • Naito
  • Shingo
  • Sanada
  • Taichi
  • ZSJ
  • Tanahashi
  • Ibushi
  • Kojima
  • Makabe
  • Yujiro
  • Hiromu
  • Desperado
  • SHO
  • Ishimori
However, if Japan is allow to bring in talent from New Zealand, the last four can get swapped out for Henare, Fale, White and Suzuki. With an injury angle being used to write Suzuki out of the entire G1.

I read an article today that New Zealand is 100 days transmission free from the virus and that things are returning to fully normal so that's at least a really good sign in Jay White being able to come over in another 30 days or so.

So, there won’t be any filler tag matches this G1. Just Block A matches for one show, and Block B matches for the other. Which is a change I welcome, since I never watched those tag matches. The G1 is hard enough to get though as its is with the current format.

I would usually skim the tag matches before the G1 matches as most of them gave a good preview for the matches to come. I especially did this when Mox was in the G1 last year. The stuff him and Naito did before their match was hilarious. But, if they are gone, I won't miss them that much.

Then he should be on NJPW Strong dammit!
Way below him lol. He did post a pic at an airport saying 8.29 teasing he would be at Summer Showdown, but he did the same for the Lord show and was just trolling, so we will see.

Eh somewhat, he could still be featured and have a main event every now and then. Imagine how much more attention the show would get if he was on though. Yeah, he's a major troll and he got me once, he's crying wolf so when he does show up it may be unexpected and more exciting

Pretty sure Jay lives in Florida when hes not in Japan.
Someone told me that too. That being said, I don’t mind a bunch of people being left out anyone. It allows for a different tournament and a few guys to be protected and have “gripes” throughout the coming year.

I came up with blocks somewhere. I’m hoping for an Okada/Sanada final.

I want to see your blocks. I don't even know where to start with it this year. These are my guesses for finals though...

Naito / Okada
Ibushi / Naito
Okada / Ibushi

These top 3 seem kind of obvious but they are "safe" predictions because usually the top guys get in but this year I'm seeing it shaken up and think they could easily pull the following and look good...

SANADA / EVIL - Could be a great program between 2 former partners/tag champs/stable mates, could be a great program to boost up SANADA

As you've stated Okada / SANADA - Great rivalry where SANADA gets that rub and shot up to the main event.

Shingo / Naito - Could be a great stable vs stable war with the slow build story of Shingo claiming he is the best champion as NEVER champ.

Ibushi / Shingo - Kind of out there but would be a great program, they need more heavy firepower towards the top and this would make Shingo.

SANADA / Ibushi - Kind of out there too with no real build and no previously existing story but that would be good stuff to be sure.

WIldcard picks to make it to one of the finals - ZSJ or Taichi - They seem high on these guys and I wouldn't be surprised if one of them gets the rub.

I almost want to pick Tanahashi with some of the above names but I don't see him making it this year, I think he will have a 10 point run and give the rub to some up and comers and will slowly be phased out.

By the way, I really miss you on the AEW boards, hopefully you visit again some day, but it is great to have you on board discussing New Japan.
