I remember I was just an 8 year old lad who just like any other child wanted a game boy advanced. I had just gotten a PlayStation 1 two years earlier but I wanted to take my gaming on the road. I finally got a GBA along with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Fire Pro Wrestling. It was freaking awesome even though it didn't have a backlight. And then, nintendo decided that I was having to much fun and released the GBA SP only a few months later. :cuss:
Every freakin year they release a new console with jipped features so they can re sell you the same got damn game next week. Of course, the kids in school made fun of me because my parents couldn't afford the new one, so I was stuck with the morbidly obese GBA while the other kids played with the technologically up to date (for 2003) gaming device. They've been doing this crap since the nineties, when is it going to stop! Damn you Nintendo.

Unfortunately, it's never going to stop. I rarely buy anything high tech at this point because it seems to be completely irrelevant within 6 months.

The one that pissed me off the most was the DS Lite, they altered the input slot so you could no long play gameboy color or original game boy games in it. I have kept the original DS just for that reason. They sell you software that should give you an endless right to use that game. However they like to phase out the old and force you to buy the new to fatten their already exploding pockets...

Nice rant. Totally understand what you're saying. I just wanted to post, though, to highlight just how good a video game company, Nintendo has been over the last two decades.

I'm not a gamer like I used to be, but back when I was a little lad, there were two forces at the head of console game development.

Sega and Nintendo.

Now these two were head to head through the master sytem/nes days, and through the genesis/snes days. What happened after this point, though, was interesting storytelling if nothing else.

A giant entered the fray. Sony. and they released the PS. Sega's response to this was, of course, the Saturn, also a 32 bit power console and the height of mainstream tech. Nintendo, on the other hand, waited. Sony, with their powerhouse resources, absolutely flooded the market with games - and I mean FLOODED that muthaf***a. No matter what you were interested in, their was a bloody game for it. True Pinball has to be one of the more obscure titles. Sega, however, fell flat. They couldn't release titles as quickly, they panicked, rushed their games and produced total garbage. This was a crushing blow for Sega as a pioneer gaming company.

Meanwhile, as soon as 64 bit gaming tech became available, Nintendo put all their years of preparation into a strong N64 product, which could compete with the PS in spite of the Playstation's flying head start and unending finances.

Then came the next era; 128 bit gaming, and a new, EVEN BIGGER powerhouse joined the fray. Microsoft made a massive statement in the console industry with their release of the Xbox, which immediately relegated Ninetendo's Game Cube as a 3rd runner behind the PS2 and XBox.

Nintendo was now in trouble. They had a firm grasp on hand-held gaming but in the console department, they were simply outmatched in resources. what did they do?

They focused their hand-held gaming grip and they invented the Wii. They decided that they could no longer compete for the main gaming demographic and used their children's market to reel in the family market too. They made stupid crap like Brain Training, Wii sports...

Now that Sony and Microsoft are entering into the Wii's territory of motion sensor gaming etc... I have to wonder...?

what are these guys gonna do next to survive?

...

<ahem> yeah, sorry about that, just felt like a good opportunity to get it out.
