I agree. Fantastic talent. Good on the mic and solid in the ring. What if huh?

The WWE fucked him up by taking his character in the complete opposite direction. They went from him being upset for being discriminated against for being Arab-American to him actually being a terrorist. Ruined everything...

The kicker was that the guys weren't actually terrorists, they were white guys that the audience was supposed to (and did) assume were terrorists because they thought they were also Arabs.

He could well have become one of the greatest heels of the last ten years had he not been booted off TV in the way that he was. I wonder though what kind of place he would have had in this modern PG era WWE we have now, i imagine he would have faded into a shadow of his former character and suffered immensely.

It was never going to last that long. Like he said, he was always so damn close to the line he was bound to cross it eventually. Or he'd have fucked up somehow and gotten fired for that.

I agree. I suppose six years in this business is a long time for one character, especially one like Hassan, to remain relevant and entertaining. It certainly was an exciting character though, a big shame that he left the business too.

I always liked Hussan. and it was through no fault of his own that he was taken off tv. Creative dropped the ball.

He was the most over heel back in 2005, the most heat, he had all the tools to make it as a top heel, hell he was the top heel of the entire WWE, and he could have become WWE Champion or World Heavyweight Champion

Absolute shame. Hassan was quite possibly one of the greatest heels of all time (seriously), and could have become one of the greatest superstars of all time if WWE wasn't so goddamn stupid. His original gimmick of "arab-american victim of prejudice" was phenominal, but Vince, in his infinite wisdom and love of steriotypes, decided "Hey, lets turn him into a psuedo terrorist!" So much wasted potential. It's good to see that he adapted and is still successful.

Being English, I don't really blame them for axing him post 7/7. It would by like having Earthquake main event in the Tokyo Dome a week after the disaster.
Earthquake vs Tyhpoon in the main event of a charity event for Fukishima relief fund. Would be epic.

Hassan was awesome in his short time. Its a shame for his character what went on in reality because the guy had alot of talent. It's a shame he didn't come back repackaged.

Awesome read!,I was a fan and so this makes me miss him more, very underrated and I thought he had potential to continue on after debuting in an interesting way.....But then WWE dropped the ball on him in so many ways!

A damn shame!,I've been waiting to read news about him returning to WWE as I've been hoping for that sinceh left, guess he won't be coming back anytime soon and that sux!

Hassan's character was brilliant. I've always felt his and the evil Doink were two of the greatest understated gimmicks ever. It was a crying shame that his run ended due to really bad timing and political correctness run amok. Hell, for the better part of a year we had the un-Americans creating havoc post 9/11.

Heh, I never knew he was Italian.

What does PC have anything to do with his release?! He was released because they didn't want controversy after the bombings; Caponi even mentions they were skating on thin ice the whole time.

He was awesome though: the best thing about Hassan was that he was the good guy and the audience was the heels (well... kind of). Of course now we're back to stereotypical foreigners in Kozlov and Yoshi, but it was interesting while it lasted. I always thought Daivari was under-used too... he was pretty good in the ring and made a great manager.

Great character. I enjoyed the guy.

But as it turns out he didn't have much love for the industry anyway so it might have all been for the best.

If he were still around today he'd probably be teaming with Kali. :p

He basically got screwed by the Smackdown writers if you think about it. They took his gimmick way too far, they should have known better.

The ironic thing about Hassan also was that he was actually right about everything he said (in the beginning).
