AEW World Champion MJF has provided an update on his status ahead of his AEW contract expiring.

During MJF’s heel run, the star would often talk about the ‘bidding war of 2024’, arguing that he’d have numerous companies interested in him ahead of his AEW deal expiring in January 2024.

While MJF hasn’t talked about his plans for this bidding war much over the last few months, we’re less than two weeks away from January 1.

Speaking on the SI Media podcast, MJF stated that he hasn’t yet signed a new deal with AEW.

Admitting that he wants to stay with AEW, MJF said:

“I’ve been saying the same thing (about my contract expiration date). I never lied. January 1st, 2024.

“When stuff like that gets leaked out, it makes me laugh because I remember something leaked out about Cody (Rhodes) having secretly re-signed and then he showed up (in WWE). Something got leaked out about, you know, CM Punk and Tony Khan or you know…

“I think fans leak out things that they want to be true. I love AEW, I wanna stay in AEW. After this pay-per-view (Worlds End), it’s time to assess the situation for a professional setting. So… not yet (I haven’t re-signed).

MJF is set to defend his AEW World Championship against Samoa Joe at the upcoming Worlds End pay-per-view.

AEW Worlds End will emanate from the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on December 30, just days before MJF’s current contract ends.

Hopefully MJF has re-signed and is just playing things up. It would suck to see him leave as I do feel he would be quite the loss for AEW, even bigger than Cody and Punk. Considering that MJF made a name for himself down in MLW, the guy really did become that main event talent that AEW needed and not a former WWE or NJPW talent.

Some fantasy book here for sure.

They could do something crazy where you have Joe win the World title at World's End. Then you have MJF cut a promo afterwards as if he is truly leaving and just thanks the fans, but tells TK and everyone in the back to "Fuck Off, he's going to WWE". Then AEW can let speculation build till the Rumble, at this point, who cares if people think he is going to the WWE. The Rumble is huge to begin with, so its not like you will have all this crazy amount of viewers watching the Rumble in hopes that MJF shows up. Things will be centered around Punk, Rollins, Roman and if Cody wins the rumble.

In the meantime if they want to keep building up the Devil storyline over the course of the month, then the week after the Rumble have MJF return to AEW but to be revealed as the Devil as that he has re-signed with AEW. The problem is with AEW right now, who do you make be the Devil as we have been saying that will be a payoff for everyone which would make sense. People are ready to riot if its Jack Perry, then others are like meh if its Cole + Britt and friends, so why not just have it be the actual "Devil".

How do they get from point A to B, is another story.

You can't be serious?

WWE wouldn't know what to do with a wrestler in his mid 20s that can cut 10-15 minute promos? If raw continues to be 3 hours long, they'd stick his ass on Raw and let him eat up time from the jobber tag team gimmicks and push him as a 15 year investment because they know he can talk lol

WWE has certainly made some stupid decisions over the years, but they aren't blind

Even if this is storyline/Kayfabe, if he chooses to 'stay' it's not a good look for WWE. The optics will not be pretty through no fault of their own.

It'll also show WBD that their major star believes and has confidence in the company's future by committing himself to it. No bigger vote of confidence than that. So this could be a ploy by TK to trick WBD and get a favourable deal through perception management. ;)

Considering they have dropped the bidding war of 2024 storyline, I think that MJF has truly not actually signed anything yet, since there's no reason to kayfabe this. It would be a massive blow to AEW to lose him, for sure. If anything, AEW could use a PR win like announcing they have signed MJF to a 5-year deal or something

Does TK have a pistol to the heads of the Codys and Jades, and MJF if he goes? They're adults who can make their own decision. Everyone knows WWE is the big leagues by a mile, they'll most likely be more known in WWE by default, and if AEW had the absolute best booking in the world nothing would change that. Why is AEW's fault these people left?

In any case regarding MJF, he will eventually end up in WWE it's just a matter of when. But you have to admit he's great at stirring the pot.

I've said it once, I'll say it again, M.J.F. WILL NOT LEAVE WORLD'S END A.E.W. CHAMP!!!

Now there's numerous ways this can happen, first Samoa Joe could just beat him for the title. Afterwards they shake hands and M.J.F. says he's leaving this is his farewell, maybe he gets the A.E.W. roster in the back to come out and he says good buy to them.

Option 2. This week on Dynamite, they could announce a Casino match, weather it be a Ladder or Battle Royal, with the winner cashing in their chip whenever they want. You could have the Devil be the Joker, and he'd win the whole thing mirroring M.J.F's victory at All Out, and then after M.J.F. is victorious the lights go out, and the Devil appears, unmasks, and wins in a very cheap fashion.

Option 3. M.J.F. wins, and then says his contract is up at midnight and he is leaving to join W.W.E., and with that doing the very first good deed in his life he is vacating the A.E.W. World Title.

Personally I'd go with option 1 i listed, have Adam Cole be the Devil and the masked men are the Kingdom and Wardlow

I’d hope for AEW’s sake he stays another few years. Maybe they’ll right the ship by then after Tony Khan stops living in denial. MJF leaving will be a near devastating knockout blow after spending all of 2023 with him as the premier attraction for the company. It would just about complete AEW’s transition to a company for indy workrate guys and aging veterans looking for a last big payday.

- if he has signed, I dont like when he says "I havent lied". there are other ways to circumvent the answer without saying "lie". A handshake deal is ok though.

- i have loved MJF's work as champ, but I wish he kept his "bidding war of 2024" schtick and was less fan friendly

- It would be a huge dent for AEW, but I dont think its Hogan leaving Gagne levels

- I hooooope he stays. He is the best wrestler in the world right now. But if he wants stardom, notoriety, fame, kayfabe achievements, he will need to go to the fed. But if he wants a challenge, carry a company on his shoulders, be his own man - stay in AEW

- I do think he needs 3-6 months off, to freshen the fans up and give him a rest too.

MJF has outgrown AEW. If he stays, he'll just be coasting there until his contract is up while becoming less over and more beat up in the process.

For a guy with MJF's ambition, staying in AEW would be really stupid of him and he'd lose alot of credibility. It would be like Omega not signing with WWE, but instead, wanting to hang around The Bucks.

And we see how that's going.

At this stage, would anyone even be surprised if MJF drops the title at Worlds End, the Ninja gets revealed as Ziggler and then MJF shows up on Raw the next month. After Cody and Punk it would just be business as usual for AEW.

Now if WWE want to put the final dagger in. They could sign MJF, Starks, Ethan Page and Daniel Garcia, and have then debut as the New Radicals.

The final dagger was Punk, Anyone else would basically be the WWE running up the score like they did when they signed Jericho in 99. This is all a nothing burger anyway since he already re-signed with the company earlier this year. The problem is that the WWE isn't playing along with this free agent storyline AEW is trying to tell, so no one believes what he's saying.

Anyone WWE signs away from AEW will be elevated higher than they otherwise would be in a pre AEW world. It's about the business side of things. Cody would not be where he is in the WWE pecking order today if he hadn't been involved in AEW's birth. Punk would not be back in WWE if he hadn't gone to AEW first. MJF would get a big debut because of the discussion that would provoke in pro wrestling media and across social platforms. Similarly, the level of push is directly tied to where AEW sits as a rival promotion at any given time.

MJF's not going anywhere, he has it good in AEW, so none of this matters. Same for guys like Swerve who are also enjoying having more influence and prominence in their new home. But for the folks like Ricky Starks, who could legitimately find themselves in a better overall position elsewhere, it should be part of the conversation.

Being the new Miz in WWE [Since Miz is over 40 so he's on the back half of his career] is still a spot that gets you more opportunities outside of wrestling than being a big deal in AEW.
I'm not degrading Miz, but I think it's a matter of perception. I don't think anyone goes into WWE thinking 'I want to be the next Miz'. They want to be the next John Cena, the next Undertaker, the next Roman Reigns. They want to carry the company, or to be iconic.

I'm not sure why WWE would feel the need to take MJF and invest in him for his movie career (and from what I heard most of his scenes were cut from the final edit). They already have wrestlers getting mainstream attention, and in regards specifically to movies, Seth Rollins filmed scenes for the upcoming Captain America movie. If MJF sees that WWE aren't going to put the resources behind him, it looks better if he's carrying AEW or iconic to it's legacy.

That's all I'm asking. One title reign would make the jump worth it.
Worth it to you, but I don't think one title reign would make it worthwhile to MJF.

Well yeah, everyone wants to be the next Shohei Otani in the MLB too. But sometimes you are gonna be the guy who gets the contract for 5 million a year over 3 years instead of 70 million a year over 10 years. Doesn't mean you should stay in a Colombian baseball league being the biggest star there when you can go to the MLB and possibly be more relevant while not being at the top of the totem pole. Being an upper midcarder in the WWE gives you more status than being the top guy in AEW. That is unlikely to change anytime soon {Especially with Khan's current leadership]. Not to mention MJF has already feuded with most guys in AEW who are on his status level. WWE would offer a lot of fresh program opportunities.

This is the same guy that has spent so much time playing a character in every interview, trying to blur the lines and get people to question if he really is a jerk in real life. Questioning if what he says is true. I never really bought in to the whole "bidding war, 2024" thing because MJF has mentioned it comfortably so much on TV. Plus him saying "I can't confirm or deny there being a plane ticket" in a statement in the past.

At the very least Tony would have been advised to not allow MJF to talk about the possibility of him being able to leave AEW in the future while he is on the mic. on Dynamite. MJF extended his deal a long time ago. Whether it was after DoN last year or whenever.

Like, I am even willing to bet that he isn't at odds with Tony Khan as has been speculated so much of. I think sometimes those in the business try to use our habits of speculating about everything against us. Ultimately fooling us in to believing that some sort of backstage drama is real when it either isn't true or isn't as huge of a deal as was blown up on the internet.

MJF going to WWE feels inevitable, though right now AEW is booking him like Super Cena. So, if he can continue that, why leave right?

But while I expect him in WWE one day, there is no way Tony Khan is booking MJF like Super Cena recently if there's a chance he could show up in the Royal Rumble a month later. If he is and that does happen........he will never hear the end of it.

It would be a massive blow if he left but it wouldn't be the end of AEW - a year or two ago MJF was just a midcarder with that shitty Pinnacle group

Someone else just needs to step up which usually happens

I'm just watching WrestleMania 31 and Brock comes out and is just the absolute man - sign him and have him make a star out of someone. Or just have Brock carry things for a while

Noone is going to agree with me but so many options and it's always doom and gloom
