Match of the Night for Each Summerslam

Title is self explanatory. What are your MOTN for each Summerslam event?

1988 = The Mega Powers Vs. The Mega Bucks: Fun and entertaining main event with a memorable finish. Oh Liz was cute back then or what? lol.
Runner Up: Bulldogs Vs. Rougeaus

1989 = Rick Rude -c- Vs. Ultimate Warrior: IC Title: Superb match that payed off their feud greatly. There were a handful of matches I really enjoyed on this show, but this was the clear cut favorite.

1990 = Demolition -c- Vs. The Hart Foundation: WWF Tag Title 2 out of 3 Falls Match: I often cite this as the match that made me fall in love with tag team wrestling. It is a classic for sure.

1991 = Mr. Perfect -c- Vs. Bret Hart: IC Title: This is on the short list of all time greatest IC Title matches of all time, is it not? Great stuff here.
Runner Up: Ted DiBiase -c- Vs. Virgil: Million Dollar Title

1992 = Bret Hart -c- Vs. The British Bulldog: IC Title: One of my favorite matches ever.

1993 = Bret Hart Vs. Jerry Lawler: For the Title of King: Not the most technically sound affair, but it was a wild and crazy situation full of heat and that's what you want.

1994 = Bret Hart -c- Vs. Owen Hart: WWF Title Steel Cage Match: One of the best cage matches ever.

1995 = Razor Ramon -c- Vs. Shawn Michaels: IC Title Ladder Match: Not as classic as their WMX bout, but a worthy sequel for sure.

1996 = The Undertaker Vs. Mankind: Boiler Room Brawl: This was ahead of its time and featured a memorable finish that added extra spice to the Taker/Mankind rivalry.

1997 = The Undertaker -c- Vs. Bret Hart: WWF Title w/Shawn Michaels as Guest Referee: Great main event between two legends and a finish that set the stage for huge things for the next couple of months.

1998 = The Rock -c- Vs. HHH: IC Title Ladder Match: More of a brawl and knockdown drag out fight than the typical high spot filled Ladder match, this one is a bit of a gem and worth another look if you're interested.

1999 = Test Vs. Shane McMahon: Love Her or Leave Her Greenwich Streetfight: Odd choice, sure, but this was the most dramatic match on this show.

2000 = Edge and Christian -c- Vs. The Hardy Boyz Vs. The Dudley Boyz: WWF Tag Title TLC Match: I mean...yeah. It is a spotfest, but at the time, this really was revolutionary and fresh.
Runner Up: The Rock -c- Vs. Kurt Angle Vs. Triple H: WWF Title Triple Threat Match

2001 = Stone Cold Steve Austin -c- Vs. Kurt Angle: WWF Title: In the middle of the less than well received Invasion angle, we did get gems like this where the guys went out there and busted their butts to make something work. Angle looked like the greatest babyface ever in this thing, which is odd considering his best work was typically as a heel.

2002 = Shawn Michaels Vs. Triple H: Unsanctioned Streetfight: It is HBK's return to the ring and it was a dramatic showdown between two former friends trying to kill each other. It was just awesome and I loved it.
Runner Up: Kurt Angle Vs. Rey Mysterio

2003 = Kurt Angle -c- Vs. Brock Lesnar: WWE Title: Honestly, I am one of the few that felt their Mania XIX match was overrated, but I liked this one more. Maybe the fact that Brock was a heel here just made it work better for me. Who knows?

2004 = Chris Benoit -c- Vs. Randy Orton: World Title: On a show with a terrible crowd that crapped on almost everything, this was the one thing that escaped unscathed it seemed. Very basic and simple main event with Orton getting the big win to make it memorable.

2005 = Hulk Hogan Vs. Shawn Michaels: I was there live for this show, so to see Hogan and HBK going at it one on one was a great thing to be a part of. Its a shame that the match has garnered a negative reputation from Shawn's overselling, which was not overly obvious in person, but sticks out like a sore thumb on video. Shame, but I still remember having a blast watching it in person and that's what matters more to me.

2006 = Edge -c- Vs. John Cena; WWE Title: Honest to God, there was almost nothing I liked on this show. Foley Vs. Flair didn't do it for me. DX Vs. McMahon's army made me want to die. Everything else kind of fell flat. The only things on the show that had anything worth remembering were Hogan Vs. Orton who had a decent old school type of match, and this one where Edge went over Cena, so...yeah, I liked that part of it.

2007 = John Cena -c- Vs. Randy Orton: WWE Title (by default): Honestly, I hated Cena and Orton's matches more often than not, but the only reason I am listing it as the MOTN here is that I have absolutely no memory of anything else that happened on this show. Seriously, I just looked at the card again on Wikipedia and I have absolutely no memory of anything on that damn undercard. So points to Cena/Orton for being the only match I even remember from this show.

2008 = Edge Vs. The Undertaker: Hell in a Cell: The first PG HIAC match turned out quite well and was a nice payoff to their feud that ran all year long.
Runner Up: Cena Vs. Batista

2009 = Jeff Hardy -c- Vs. CM Punk: World Title TLC Match: Great feud, nice payoff with a great match. Punk looked like the next big star here...too bad he got fed to Taker almost immediately after this.

2010 = Team WWE Vs. Team Nexus: The undercard for this show is severely lacking. Otherwise, I would have picked something else. The match itself is good. The finish is ridiculous and effectively killed the Nexus just as it was getting started, but hey, this was the height of "LOL, Cena wins!" so what can you do?

2011 = CM Punk Vs. John Cena: Undisputed WWE Title w/HHH as Guest Referee: Not as good as their MITB 2011 encounter, but still a hot main event that showed there was fire in Punk at this point.

2012 = Chris Jericho Vs. Dolph Ziggler: Because I literally did not give a shit about any thing else.

2013 = CM Punk Vs. Brock Lesnar: No DQ Match: Awesome match that might be my favorite match in the WWE careers of both men. Awesome stuff.
Runner Up: John Cena -c- Vs. Daniel Bryan: WWE Title (both matches are on my list of Must See Summerslam matches, so take that for what its worth)

2014 = John Cena -c- Vs. Brock Lesnar: WWE Title: Not the most technically sound match, but it was the most memorable match on this show by virtue of being a long squash, which legit shocked everyone at the time.

2015 = Kevin Owens Vs. Cesaro: Not much to it beyond two guys being allowed to shine a little bit, so to that end, it was good.
Runner Up: Undertaker Vs. Brock Lensar (would have been number one if it wasn't for the idiotic finish).

2016 = AJ Styles Vs. John Cena: Excellent match and the right guy won. One of the reasons that Cena's feud with AJ worked was that Cena actually had to struggle to beat him. AJ won basically all the matches before their final match at the Rumble the next year, so Cena actually had to overcome something there, rather than the usual "Cena loses first and then wins 12 rematches in a row to make up for it" stuff that typically happened.

2017 = Brock Lesnar -c- Vs. Roman Reigns Vs. Samoa Joe Vs. Braun Strowman: WWE Title 4 Way Match = It is the only match from this show I watched so...yeah it wins by default. It was a really good match, so at least there is that.

2018 = The Miz Vs. Daniel Bryan: Good match and there was virtually nothing else I remember liking.
