Wonder if Deano can break the record? It looks more and more likely by the day. Especially if he never has a title defense. But one day, the WWE won't tell the story about how Dean didn't defend the belt. They'll just tell the story that he was the longest running champ.

So, if the plan is to eventually have Rollins & Ambrose turn on Reigns, becoming a tag team and making Reigns face, Ambrose will keep the belt for over 200 more days.

There's no way he's holding it for another 200+ days, but he'll probably hold it longer than MVP.

He's defended the title on a few occasions, against some very credible opponents too, but it's just been too few and far between for people to remember or care. He defended it against Kane, Rob Van Dam, Dolph Ziggler, Mark Henry, all former world champions.

Ambrose defended it twice not that long ago against Mark Henry. The TV championship is basically defunct and afaik Abyss has never defended the title in nearly a year. It's not very comparable.

Different eras are to blame for this. Unless WWE get an idea for what to do w/the strap, it'll sit stagnant. Why do you think Dean got it in the first place? WWE knew he was going to remain relevant for this long, IE, their logic goes "oh look he's the champ, there is the gold on TV" for the casual fan, etc.

He won't break the record btw. After WM all new plans will be brought to light. Which could include a new on the spot idea to have a championship switch. Who knows over the next 200+ days.

It is really not accurate to compare title reign days between different companies and different eras. When Luger, Rude and Koloff held the US title it was not just a meaningless prop. Besides, Ambrose is not yet in the same league star credibility wise as guys like Luger, Rude and Koloff.

To be fair to TNA, I vaguely remember there being a report that the whole reason Abyss won the title was because they knew he wouldn't be on TV for a long while and it was an easy way to get it out of circulation. Which makes sense, as it hasn't actually appeared on TV since then.

Ugh. That would be the absolute worst way to book The Shield at this point ... I really think this faction has another full year in them before the breakup. They're seriously getting over as a face faction - which is something we haven't had in years.

I really want another Wyatt/Shield feud and seriously wouldn't mind the breakup of the Shield at the hands of the Wyatts.

I think the only way to legitimize the US belt at this point is to have occasional defences and giving Ambrose the record. Whoever wins it from him then could be a bigger star.

But given what HHH believes about the WWE title being the only one that matters (not sure if that's just kayfabe or his real views), then I don't expect it to be booked any better than it is right now.
