Messi is the better dribbler and has the better character. He has quicker feet over short distances.

Ronaldo is faster over distance, is a thousand times more powerful and can out jump most players.

Shooting from distance fairly equal - Ronaldo generates more power and unpredictable swerve whereas Messi is slightly more accurate with superior intentional swerve.

To achieve the perfect footballer, you could either transplant Messi's personality into Ronaldo's body or Ronaldo's physical power into Messi's body.

The only thing that prevents me immediately choosing Ronaldo is his attitude is proper shit a lot of the time. If it wasn't for that, he'd win hands down. But it is what it is, so ultimately, at a push, I would choose Messi.

I think they're at the level though where they should be judged (for Ballon d'Or etc) on what each achieves in each season, and I think Ronaldo has just slightly edged it this last season gone. By a whisker, mind.

Messi's low centre of gravity is key to how he plays. He uses it to his advantage.

Ronaldo is physically stronger though, I think he's probably a smarter player too.

Lolled at the bit of Ronaldo having a terrible attitude. He is whiny & self centered, yes. But he is also a complete professional, mainly in public relations.

Also, people picking Ronaldo isn't entirely far-fetched. It all depends on the style of play people like. What they seek in a player. I vote for Messi, personally. But Ronaldo isn't very far off him. Especially on the scale of 'obviously Messi'.

Also not sure how a picture of Iniesta benefits a Messi vs Ronaldo thread.

Attacking Messi in a press conference about something that happened a year ago and refusing to give an autograph to an 8 year old girl = complete professional.

He's selfish on the pitch as well, shoots every free kick from even the most ridiculous distances and rarely ever scores (2 from 54 last season, 1 of which was just outside the area and hit the bottom of the wall and deflected in the opposite direction), frequently gestures his teammates when they make a mistake, and who can forget this.

:penaldo :penaldo

No need to compare the two, as deep down everyone knows :messi is the best in the world, even Pele.

Wasn't the attack on Messi in the press, when he was hassled and nagged by the media questions about Messi, in which he eventually responded? Might have exceptionally worded it a bit to the side, but just remove 'hassled/nagged', replace with 'asked'.

As for shirt signing, would Messi have signed a shirt for a 8 year old kid with a Real Madrid shirt?

He is selfish, that fits into self-centered. Does try to take every opportunity. Barcelona give Messi everything, Ronaldo tries to claim everything since players like Higuain & di Maria will want them opportunities to add to their tallies also. No quarrels about that.

One stat that could be looked at, is how many shots Messi takes compared to the rest of his team. I'm not trying to nitpick, but expose how people would percieve it. If every player on Real's side played it for Ronaldo, people would start preaching that hes been 'given' the Golden Boot and call foul. Messi has that currently, and isn't being vilified.

You don't think Messi gets nagged by similar questions? He's been asked about Ronaldo's comments a couple of times, the difference is he's professional enough to decline to comment on their so called "rivalry", probably because he doesn't even see it as a rivalry and doesn't consider him different to any other opposition player.

I think most players would sign an autograph if a little girl came up to them, regardless of what shirt they're wearing.

Barcelona give Messi everything because it works, not to "play foul" and try and get him the Golden Boot. Not only did he break all the scoring records last season, he also easily had the most assists of anyone in Europe. Ronaldo takes far more shots than the rest of his team anyway, look at the Euro's, he broke the all time shots on goal record by the Quarter Finals, something like 30 attempts just in the group stages. The only tally Di Maria seems concerned about is his assist tally, averaging one every 90 minutes last season (far better than anyone else in Europe), and as for Higuain, he had the best goals to minute ratio in Europe last season iirc (or maybe second to Messi), would've been even better if he took penalties. It's all irrelevant anyway, both are the main stars for their team, Messi is suited by Barcelona's passing game and Ronaldo is suited by Madrid's counter attacking/high pressure game.
