Im unsure about the background myself but i think the scanlines kind of made up some of it, The Kurt cut blend worked out well, But what do you think?

Nice banner, problem though is the text it looks crap, and with you things tend to run right the side of the pic like the text, like the kurt blend i rate that 6.5/10
