– Kevin Owens is happy with how his turn on Kofi Kingston and the New Day worked out, but he wishes he could have been a babyface for a bit longer. Owens spoke with The Wrap ahead of Smackdown and discussed turning on the stable, which led to his upcoming match with Kingston at Money in the Bank. Highlights are below:

On his run with the New Day: “I wish I would have been able to stay on the other side of the fence a little longer, to be honest. I don’t think anybody’s really seen me as a babyface ever, or, like, the way that I envision myself being. I don’t think people have any idea what I can do on the other side. But, you know, what’s done is done. If I’m gonna speak candidly about it, I would have done it differently. I would have turned on Kofi differently at a different time.”

On being okay with how it turned out: “I ended up being wrong because once I did it, I knew that was the right time and place … I doubt that they saw it coming that night. You know the movie The Village? The M. Night Shyamalan movie? I watched that movie and the ending blew me away,” Owens said. “And afterwards, I had so many people tell me, ‘Oh, I saw it coming, I called it.’ You’re full of it, there’s no way you called that. It’s the same thing here. You knew there was gonna be some sort of swerve but there’s no way– I really don’t think people expected it to be that quick.”

On Kofi’s status with the fans helping the turn: “What really made it more effective is how much people like Kofi.”

I don't know, people were able to call it. I personally wanted him to be a face for a while as well, maybe not always with New day though. They only did the rapid paced turn because they thought Bryan would be out for much longer. they do not even have Owens on Smackdown tonight allegedly, so what was the rush? Would have made more sense to have Orton as Kofi's first challenger.

Of course he's disappointed his babyface run didn't last longer, because he knows he's doomed as a heel. When he had his program with Bryan lined up, he would've beaten Bryan for the title and been the top babyface on the brand. Once Kofi stole his spot, he got left off the biggest show of the year, and then they turned him just to be Kofis first victim, which will make him fall down the card immediately afterwards.

The only thing Vince will do with him if he's a heel is job him out and have the babyfaces make fun of him for being fat. A guy like him can't be a heel in WWE, it's a death sentence.

I guess Vince just sees him as a heel. I always thought they should have turned him a little bit later in his feud with Kofi.

The thing about KO being a face is there would only be two outcomes.

Really good or really shit.

Knowing the WWE it would be handled like shit.

KO's face run needed the Bryan feud, he is the avatar of the audience and the anti-Bryan; Kofi getting hot killed his face run and unfortunately the only other feud that could've made it work, against current Sami, is being wasted now too. By the time KO can turn again without looking like Big Show both Sami and Bryan's gimmicks are going to be old.

I'm not so sure Owens would've actually won the belt if he had gone up against Bryan at WrestleMania. He didn't have the crowd behind him as a babyface like Kofi did.

I would have kept him babyface for at least another 2-3 weeks, to let the "Big O" stuff play out more. It'd have made the turn more impactful I think.
