Kevin Nash says Eddie and Benoit becoming champion was the end of the business

Grantland.com posted an article about Kevin Nash today, in which he talks about many dimensions of his career. I thought the following was the most controversial/interesting:

Here's one reason Nash will never be an Internet darling: He called Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero — small-statured, gifted technical wrestlers that lacked big in-ring personalities but were beloved by fans — "Vanilla Midgets." He now claims the comments were a double work. It drew heat from the marks that cheered for Benoit and Guerrero because they were baby faces. It drew heat from the smart marks that cheered for Benoit and Guerrero because they were great wrestlers. Even though both are gone now,12 he still thinks they never belonged in the main event.

"When Benoit and Guerrero hugged [at the end of WrestleMania XX], that was the end of the business," he says. "Has business been the same since that WrestleMania? Has it come close to the Austin era? Has it come close to the nWo or the Hogan era? You put two fucking guys that were great workers that were the same height as the fucking referees, and I'm sorry, man. Are you going to watch a porno movie with a guy with a three-inch dick? Even if you're not gay, you will not watch a porno movie with a guy with a three-inch dick. That's not the standard in porno films. So you put a 5-foot-7 guy as your world champion."

He has the same problem with today's Internet heroes, Phil "CM Punk" Brooks and Bryan "Daniel Bryan" Danielson.

"They are not bigger than life," he says. "I bet they could both walk through airports and not be noticed unless they have a gimmick shirt on and the belt."

Oh boy.

Watch all the hate Nash gets on here for those comments.
Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit did sort of 'end' the business, but only because they died. If anything, what sucks is the fact they only got one title run each.

Also that porno comparison is the stupidest thing I've heard.

Though he's friends with HBK and had no problem with him winning....

Don't get why size of a star matters in WWE. Look at UFC. Who are their biggest names right now? GSP,Jones,Silva ect. All those guys are around 205 pounds or under. Minus NBA, sports like NHL,MLB have guys with average height of 6 feet.

Just seems like a typical thing to say from a big guy, who was around wrestling business in 90s, when guys like that, were the dominant ones.

And talking about business not coming close...The 2 most profitable WMs in history were WM23 and 28.

Attitude era and monday night wars had nothing to do with people liking stars cause of their size, it was all about things like storylines.
Nash is delusional. To say it died when they hugged at Wrestlemania is a travesty, the business will never be like it was in the Austin Era and it had changed way before Wrestlemania 20. They both deserved the title and Eddie had a HUGE personality and natural charisma. Nash sounds butt hurt!
Yeah it was literally the end of the business because they're gone. R.I.P. GOATS!

What Nash doesn't seem to get is that is not so much about having a larger than life stature as it is having a larger than like presence.

Benoit, Guerrero, Punk, as well as his buddy HBK (he qualifies as a vanilla midget too), all had that.

The Warlord was humongous, but no one ever cared about him. Why? Because as big as he was physically, he didn't have that necessary aura that drew you in.
Yeah guys with actual talent are ruining the business.
A pretty chill bit of attention seeking from our good friend Mr Nash. I'm surprised these comments weren't made on Twitter. :punk2
Jealous has-been
Wasn't Nash praising CM Punk being WWE Champion like a few months ago? Seems like WWE haven't knocked on his door again and he is getting a bit bitter.

This discussion shouldn't be about size - though it plays a big factor - but simply about the god-damn presence, the aura, the it factor...

And I don't know what to think. As much as I like Punk and Bryan, no, they are not the type of guy that Nash would like, the SCSA or The Rock type of guys.
Both men are very talented AND they are charismatic and all, but it's just not it.

Saying that they don't deserve to be at the top, at least for a while, is a stupid thing to say, certainly.

So, with that in mind, no, Benoit and Eddie did not "end the business" with them being on top.
I usually read what Nash says and assume he means the opposite!
So he watches porn as long as big dicks are featured... That's what I got out of this (besides the obvious).

Nash before said he respected those who worked their way up from the bottom to the top. All 4 men he mentioned in this interview did just that. Also what about his buddy Shawn vs Bret :punk

Anyhow, I'm sure it was a mistake to give two top talents in 2004 and 2011 the titles respectively. :punk2

Nash is just :troll'in us anyway
He humbled the shit out of myself with the name drop talking about jobbing in Indianapolis. Completely unexpected and completely humbling.
Ehhhhhhh try again Kev. Both guys were mega over with EVERYONE.
Lol I love Nash. What about during the New Gen Era when Bret and Shawn were trading the title? Not gonna pick on his body who's even smaller then Eddie/Benoit?
I don't really disagree with him but I think Rey Mysterio was worse. And it's not like Nash drew as Diesel or anything either.
