What's your opinion on the video package before the Cena vs Miz match? The one with a a bunch of shoots of Cena bowing his head down and a bunch of crowd shots etc. with a voice over of what sounded like Kanye West talking about god. (Sorry, can't find a good YouTube clip)

Was it just me, or was that the most pretentious and arrogant video package a babyface wrestler has ever had to build hype right before their match? I really don't see how that particular clip would have done anything but get heat for Cena's character, maybe they were trying to work a religious angle to get Cena over as a face (which is probably morally fucked up). But maybe I'm overreacting.

What did you guys think of the video package?

It was tasteless and felt like WWE was berating and guilt tripping people into not booing Cena. He still got booed, and the biggest pop of the match was The Miz kicking out of Cena's finisher, so fuck him and fuck that choir.

It was DMX, and it was whack.

Especially compared to the character-defining Miz video package.
My bad on naming the wrong guy.

I 100% agree that Cena's clip looked laughable compared to Miz's. Maybe WWE did it on purpose to put Miz over as the bigger star, or maybe it's because Miz just has a better backstory to make a video package on, idk could be either.

This.

Man, if Atlanta really is filled up with Southern Baptists, the little religious video package probably pissed them off even more. Think about it. If you're a religious person, and a wrestler tries to compare himself to a person who does God's workby helping others to find salvation and go to heaven to find eternal life and happiness, yeah, you're gonna be pretty pissed.

Anyway, Christian or not, I found the video package with explicit religious tones to be disgusting. John Cena doesn't mix with religion any better than government does. Why you would take something that millions of people take as a sacred duty and mix it with a cartoon figure that makes poopy jokes (not to say a person who has never mentioned God). If you're a serious Christian, you're going to be offended as hell.

That blasphemous, self-righteous, hypocritical video package made me HATE that dumb sumbitch John Cena EVEN MORE :cussin:

From the look on Cena's face, it was almost like Creative came up with the intro and tried to reassure a hesitant Cena saying, "Oh don't worry. The crowd won't dare boo you if we bring religion into this and even if they do, the choir will drown them out."

As they say, the rest is history.

you know what's funny I wonder if this indeed happen, like backstage politics Cena was all like NO! NO! YOU KIDDING ME?!

and creative was like "Trust us this will be huge!"

.....why do i say that?

you all saw Cena's performance in the ring.. something wasn't quite right

It was embarrassingly pretentious. The package and the gospel choir amounted to the single most pathetic attempt to guilt trip an audience into not booing I have ever seen. I honestly wouldn't have been surprised if they'd had Cena carry a disabled child to the ring down a ramp lined with terminally ill children dressed in his entire merch line.
