I rewatched Hogan's turn at Bash at the Beach and man, what a monumental event that was at the time. It naturally got me thinking about Cena's turn.

In 1996, Hogan was 43. Cena is 38. To put things into perspective then, I think Cena has a few years left of playing the role he is currently in. A lot of people think a heel turn for Cena will never happen, however I think it will and if done right, will be the biggest moment since the Streak ending. Mentioning the Streak, a lot of people, me included thought that would never end.

That being said, even if you think Cena will never turn heel, how do you think it would or will happen. It's true in this day and age the logistics are different. With such a smarky audience there is a chance the fans would cheer. That being said, how would we even know Cena turned heel? What would it look like?

I think Cena can't just turn heel by himself. It would have to involve WWE building up some legitimate babyfaces who the fans actually get behind. The best example being Bryan being as over as he was. That level of "overness" hadn't been seen in years. I don't think many believed it was still possible. I think with Cena turning it would have to involve screwing over one of these potential babyfaces in one way or another and aligning himself with a group who have genuine heat. It is fascinating to imagine regardless and I think we will be in for one of the most exciting periods in WWE history in a few years time, when that day happens. Thoughts?

That's what I mean by developing other legitimate babyfaces. There would need to be some credible replacements. That includes WWE being smart with their booking, giving their wrestlers some creative freedom, and the wrestlers themselves "finding themselves" if you will.

1: At this point it seems impossible for him to turn. There is WAY too much invested in him personally (His never give up crap for the childern) and all the merch/appearences/etc.
2: The only way he could fully turn is with Bryan. There is no superstar, past present or future, that he can turn with

Have him in a predicament where he must cheat to win and doesn't stop until his opponent is badly beaten. But to break the new Cena in, kill the current character and revamp it where a heel turn can be taken seriously from him.

WWE should've had a suitable replacement for Cena YEARS ago. I don't think they found anything close until Punk in 2011, Bryan in 2013 and the former Shield guys today. If you think about it, the absolute worst time of Cena hate was when WWE had no one to replace him or be an alternative top star for those fans who wanted nothing to do with Cena. It took WWE 6 years after the beginning of Cena getting booed to find a new top star post-Cena, and even then WWE had to be forced to take Punk as a top option.

I predict think he'll eventually turn heel without ever stopping being a face - mostly due to fan resentment, a stale character and his ability to needlessly bury up and coming talent.

I'm unsure as to whether I can give a time frame from when this will happen...

Cenas been at best 50/50 with the fans for years, the wwe wont do it because of the potential loss of merch sales

I imagine it'll play out with Cena facing Reigns for the title at WM 32 or WM 33, where he'll turn heel to get the win (shades of the Austin WM X7 Heel Turn.) However this is going to backfire because Cena will likely get cheered for doing this. He could however have successfully pulled off a heel turn in 2008 or 2009 (Jeff Hardy was an over enough face to feud with), late 2010 (Randy Orton was super over at the time), 2011 (CM Punk, obviously), 2012-2013 (The Rock, either time), or 2013-2014 (Bryan.)

Right now though they have no one over enough (Bryan excluded) where he could successfully turn heel. The closest they have is probably Ambrose, and he's not over enough yet considering he's been badly booked for over a year in an apparent attempt to kill his crowd reactions.

I don't think it l is ever gonna happen, and I believe at this point it would be unnecessary and counter-productive. They had a lot of great opportunities from 2010 to 2013, but now that ship has sailed and Cena should not turn heel. In keyfabe logic it wouldn't make sense especially when you take in the fact that he had the biggest spotlight of his career in those three years (Nexus, the feuds with The Rock and CM Punk and to a lower extent Daniel Bryan). If he turns heel now it would be really underwhelming
