Former WWE superstar John Bradshaw Layfield has posted a new discussion on his Facebook page answering the question he says he’s asked most on Facebook and Twitter – whether he’ll ever return to WWE. Here’s what he said:

“Will I return to WWE? I doubt it, but you never know. I am not looking for a job and they are not asking me to return so it has not come up. I had to retire due to injuries, and yes, the 23 second match with Rey at Wrestlemania was my idea-at that point in my career due to injuries I could not have had any type of real match.

“I was so hurt at that point that I literally couldn’t walk anywhere of distance and didn’t have the ability to work out. I hated being out of shape and realized I was tired of smoke and mirrors to hide my inadequacies-I didn’t want to be one of those old guys who had held on too long and I was in danger of becoming exactly that.

“It’s taken over two full years but I am currently in the best health, and shape, I have been in over a decade.”

JBL said he is currently training for the New York Marathon in November and then plans to climb the tallest volcano in the world (in Ecuador) in February.

I would love the to see JBL back in the ring he is a fantastic heel and never fails to entertain me. I was hoping he'd play more of a part in the Cole-Lawler storyline leading up to WM27 but it was merely a once time appearance.

Ive never thoguht we would see another match, but I would not be surprised to see him back as either a manager/commentator/GM or just a backstage roll.

I respect his choice but I would just want him back in a non-wrestling role. Commentator, manager, whatever. He's just that damn good and one of the best heels ever. He was able to get more heat in 5 minutes than most heels today would dream of, including JBL's Mexican impersonation.

I always wondered how wrestling in a ring everyday doesn't keep you in shape?
I think he means he's really banged up from his wrestling days. Remember, he was WWE Champion for almost a whole year, that's very demanding.

I'm not sure why WWE is not picking up on this and bringing him back for ANY type of role besides Wrestling. They can use a talented promo\mic performer like JBL and the fact that he wouldn't mind making a return without actually having to get in the ring is awesome but it appears that WWE has no idea what to do with him. I'm hoping in the next year or so they will bring him back full time for a manager role or just any part of a storyline. Wrestling misses JBL~

JBL is a perfect example of not knowing what you had until it's finally gone. He was probably the last old-school heel in the business - someone that could come out and make you completely hate him. No pops or mixed reactions. Just pure heat. Nowadays, WWE heels either get mixed reactions or little to no reactions at all.
