Of course it wouldn’t break a contract. Fighting internally likely won’t help you much when it’s up though.
Do you think ‘fighting’ to do a Jay Briscoe tribute and getting Mark on last night is going to hurt their chances? No, of course it wouldn’t.

Maybe if he made the same ‘fight’ to get Jay on while he was still alive, he could have convinced them that Jay had indeed changed and they would have relented. Or maybe they’d have held their ground. Either way, it wouldn’t affect negotiations.
Yuta accepting the challenge on behalf of Moxley deserved a "and who in the blue hell are you?" from Hangman.

The past two episodes have been awful. MJF has been my least favorite champion so far. Same shit different week. Made no sense that nobody from BCC helped Danielson, but Takeshita did.

Some of the matches were good, but I feel no intrigue from stories. It really seems like AEW isn't even trying.

Next week is just a bunch of rematches or matches that aren't anything special.

AEW has been really disappointing

I only felt something when the main event hit. The rest of the show was boring. Some cold matches, cringe backstage segments that lead to fridays, overrated Tag team having daddy issues, big man being scared of a Tweetie bird faced Hook, Danielson having long matches that are extended versions of what we have already seen before, MJF playing tough guy week 2 while running away like a chicken to any babyface who enters the ring, Jericho’s existence, Action Andrade flipping everywhere. Yeah what not to like.

I think the tragedy is a factor there

The Young Bucks were so distracted last week they forgot to bring their new belts to the venue
personally, I didn't like last week's Dynamite much but the main event really of this week's show really turned around my opinion of this week's
They need to get The Acclaimed out there in front of the crowd either wrestling or promos because they're really hot and they shouldn't cool down.

I liked the fact they have more involvement from MJF - I think having him on more and revolving the show around him will work better than a less is more approach.

Have no idea why you'd have a fresh heel in Storm get beaten by Ruby who lost any semblence of steam long ago regardless of Toni but there you are. A DMD appearance is always good though. However you know she's going to cut some babyface promo about homegrown AEW talents vs WWE or other promotions blah blah blah. Britt shouldn't give a shit about that.

Andretti / Ricky / JAS match wasn't too bad as it was just a showcase for Andretti. Doesn't hurt Ricky at all for Andretty ti take a pin and as long as he wins this feud all will be well. He CANNOT lose one on one to anyone at this rate, he's been on fire and the crowd's in to him.
There was no Cipperley so the show automatically gets a high grade. .

MJF as much as I love the guy, the storyline of jumping through hoops is boring. Danielson is having 15 minute matches, where the outcome is obvious. So it kills the match.

I'm sick to death of Darby Allin and Jungle boy they ain't pillars. Darby in particular annoys me.

When I think MJF said the pillars are Darby, Jungle boy and Sammy. Three out of the four I'm sick off.

Pillars should be MJF, Ricky Starks, Swerve and Powerhouse Hobbs.

You might be right and maybe some guys needed time off. It just seems like they're doing a lot of rematches recently.

Yknow, every time you post about Big Jim Cipperly an Angel (Ortiz) orders wings.

The pillar silliness is a
victim of both diminishing returns and overexposure. For something that likely originated in New Japan and All Japan it sure is a popular subject here. All Japan had it’s four pillars + a fifth pillar in Jun Akiyama. New Japan didn’t have pillars in their vocabulary. They called their foundational talent the Three Musketeers. The first consisted of Shinya Hashimoto, Masahiro Chono and everyone’s favourite oatmeal kneed, bald headed, spitter Keiji Muto/Great Muta.

They anointed new musketeers in the late 2000s back when the company was a total mess. The new trio was Shinsuke Nakamura, Hiroshi Tanahashi and Katsuyori Shibata.

Three of the AEW pillars have been here since opening night. Starks came a little later. They have been up and coming for almost four years at this point.

Suggestions for new pillars would be Wheeler Yuta, Daniel Garcia, Action Andretti and either Lee Moriarty or Dante Martin.

Whoever makes up the group it should definitely have Jade Cargill or maybe even Hook. Each AEW version started out quite unproven.

Hopefully the pillar problem is something left for Pro Wrestling Tees to market young stars in AEW. Any new edition of the group really won’t be pillars at this point in AEW’s lineage. The current pillars probably don’t care too much beyond how much money, ring time and screentime everyone receives in service to the twisted reality that is tucked deep in TK’s mind.

How about there shouldn’t be any pillars? The wrestling industry and people’s lives are very fluid. Magnum TA probably would have been a pillar back then. Eddie Guerrero maybe. One day Sammy could have a falling out and be gone to WWE in a second. Shit happens
The Pillars was just a nickname retroactively given to the four most talented young OGs in AEW. No need to think about it much beyond that. AEW had a very thin roster when it started and took chances on guys who had zero national TV exposure in MJF, Darby, Jungle Boy and Sammy. All four have played a part to some degree in the AEW story and have highlight reel moments. One is the world champion, one is the TNT champion, and the other two have held gold.

There are newer arrivals in their 20s (or teens in Nick's case) such as Hook, Takeshita, Bandido, Garcia, Andretti, Top Flight and the soon-to-arrive Nick Wayne, but I doubt they'll repeat the Pillars moniker because the idea of the original four is that they were part of the foundation.
Man MJF as champ has just been the same ol song and dance so far with being very underwhelming. Nothing about this feud with him and Bryan has entertained me from the matches Bryan has had and MJF promos are even boring....Unfortunate
I sadly agree. The idea of MJF putting Bryan Danielson against a bunch of random opponents probably looked good on paper because a.) analytics likely show fans tune in to see Bryan Danielson regardless of circumstances and b.) it satiates Bryan's desire to work with mid and undercard wrestlers. The issue and reality is that it's hard for viewers to feel invested when the outcomes are incredibly predictable. Did anyone really think Danielson would lose to any of the wrestlers during this road to face MJF? And TK recently used his fan goodwill token by running The Elite against Death Triangle seven times. Did fans really think the series wouldn't go to "Game 7" at one of AEW's biggest non-PPV shows in Los Angeles?

On the bright side, MJF is course correcting on his recent promos; the first few ones after winning the champion were somewhat underwhelming (perhaps intentionally to help his opponents like Ricky Starks). We're now starting to see Psycho MJF return, so hopefully things pick up heading into Revolution in just over five weeks.

From a production standpoint, this episode:
  • Used fewer camera cuts, longer lasting shots that allowed a move's impact to hit without cutting away. There were also many more extreme telephoto close-ups used. All of which made the episode feel more cinematic.
  • Something seemed off with Excalibur almost as if he had in-ear audio or video screen issues. This was really noticeable with him trying to announce the card lineup early on in the episode. Ian Riccaboni and Caprice Coleman really outshined Excalibur during the main event.
  • I was initially put off with AEW's new color scheme. I get it - TK wanted to use blue, white, and red because other major sports franchises do, too. But it dawned on me that the blues used remind me of NCAA March Madness colors. Here is an NCAA College BB screen cap that I found from Google. Here is a screen cap from last week's Dynamite in Danielson & Bandido's match.
  • The crowd lighting was the best it's been since the refresh and it reminded me of pre-pandemic Dynamites.
