2 years ago, Smackdown Live 9/12/17 drew 2.754 million with Jinder Mahal as world champ. 2 years later, Smackdown hovers around 2 mil and Raw just got a 2.130 million. Smackdown from 2 years ago outdrew Raw by over 600,000 viewers with Jinder fucking Mahal as world champion. If that's not dying, I have no idea what is. Compare that to 5 or so years ago, when a returning Dave Batista drew 4.86 million viewers in 2014, that episode drew more viewers than this weeks Raw and Smackdown will combined, plus another 800K-1 million viewers. The business is absolutely fucked, Raw will dip below 2 million this year and Smackdown will likely be headed to 1.5 mil or so. Soon enough, they'll have less viewers than peak TNA did. As far as the other companies go, about 387 people still watch Impact and ROH is insignificant. It really all comes down to AEW, if they aren't a big hit, the business will continue to decline into a more obscure niche and will stand the real threat of going into complete underground obscurity if the TV bubble bursts and TV executives stop paying huge money for mediocre ratings.

So, WWE in 2019 has lowest rating and viewership of all time. the rating are all time down. no star powers, no story, no exciting match. even Stone cold Steve Austin couldnot bring good rating to RAW and he is biggest star in WWE along with The Rock.

Even 2009 was not that bad and 2007 was attitude era level of good compare to crap now. we had John cena, CM punk, Orton, Batista, Edge etc are all bigger stars than Seth rollins, Roman reigns and AJ styles let alone guys like Rock, Austin, Undertaker, Mankind. Only Good talent today is Fiend and thats it.

but some say AEW is future and will Kill WWE and it would be like old WWF or WCW so i decide to watch AEW, when I watched first PPV, i was like who are these guys? all i have seen some bland indy flip flop guys, some guys wear some wierd mask and i realize that its just another glorified indy show. apart from Jericho and Mox. AEW is full of jobbers and unknown people.

then i realize Wrestling is just dead. not just WWE. AEW is also another indy fed show. even WWE at its worst have better roster than them.

Wrestling isn't dead. If it was, ratings would be 0.00000 with absolutely zero viewers.

Its popularity comes in ups and downs. The business is cyclical.

"Wrestling is dead"..... How can that be when there is more wrestling on TV than there ever has been in the last 20 years. Wrestlers have more opportunites to get signed to major companies and make a living off of wrestling. The decline in ratings is a decline in viewership habits. There's a million and one ways to consume wrestling these days and most of it is done through internet platforms. The WWE is making 2 billion dollars off of TV deals. ROH is backed by billion dollar television syndication company. Impact is owned by a growing multi-media conglomerate which just acquired AXS TV. NJPW was bought buy entertainment company a few years back and is doing bigger business under them. AEW is backed the the billion dollar Kahn family. People with a lot of money are getting into the wrestling business! Wrestling is bigger than its been.

They had a mini boom in 05 because of Batista and to a somewhat lesser extent at the time Cena, and they ruined it by sending Batista to Smackdown. Besides that, the business was very slowly losing popularity since 02 until a few years ago where they began hemorrhaging viewership. It hasn't been an up and down business in a long time.

Its not in the best shape but its certainly not dead. AEW is about to get on tv and is pulling in the largest non-WWE wrestling crowds in the US since WCW died, NWA is getting on tv around the same time, Impact is about to get improved tv exposure, MLW has a solid weekly product. Down in Mexico AAA and CMLL are still large promotions. Not to mention this decade of New Japan is still going to be talked about in wrestling circles in decades to come the way 90s All Japan is, i'd expect that LU (rip) will be remembered very fondly too. And in the UK the indie scene got so big that the 2nd (arguably 1st) largest channel in the country put its own wrestling show on on Saturday afternoons (okay..it bombed, granted, but still).

Did everyone just forget that TV viewership as a whole has gone down over the past two decades... Like sure WWE's product blows which is a contributing factor, but wrestling is far from dead. Also the OP is massive bait.

Wrestling isn’t dead. In reality, all signs point toward a boom period, one we were supposed to have in 2015. Fans just need to come to terms that guys from ROH and the other small workrate feds don’t draw in WWE, and it’s part of the reason why business is down. Two thirds of the Shield are repped (Ambrose & Reigns) in public. Half the Horsewomen are repped (Becky and Sasha) in public. Shinsuke Nakamura gets repped in public. Even Sin Cara has been repped in public. Cena’s still repped in public even though he hasn’t wrestled in ages. Bullet Club is everywhere. Los Ingobernables de Japon is everywhere. CM Punk still remains popular, even after getting demolished in his stint in the UFC. In due time, AEW will be everywhere. And recently, I saw someone wearing an Enzo Amore shirt the other day. When fans would rather rep Enzo Amore in public over those workrate guys, it’s time to start reassessing why these guys aren’t over.

Wrestling is just like rock music. It's not mainstream anymore but not dead. There are still millions of fans.

The Fiend isn't the only talent in WWE. They also have R Truth, Elias Samson and Braun Strowman. Braun Strowman needs to go back to his old ways of being a monster and destroying things. I would also bring back the Hardy Boyz as a tag team because they know how to work the crowd.

We sure do love to be overly dramatic and negative on the current state of wrestling, don't we?

How is wrestling "dead" when there is so much of it still happening through WWE, AEW and others? Someone needs to take a break from wrestling because it seems like they are burnt out.

I do believe that interest is down overall, but to be fair, its hard to come up with even a rough estimate of how many people actually watch something nowadays. How many people are watching an unofficial live stream? how many are downloading it or watching it on some unofficial site a few hours after it ends? how many are watching highlights on Youtube? how many are waiting for that episode to go on the Network? what about the international viewers? admittedly this has already been a factor for most of the decade now which is why I say I agree that interest is down. But still, the basic tv viewership doesnt tell half the story.

If you think wrestling is dead right now you're just over it and no longer a fan.
There's so much good fucking wrestling right now. It's just not in WWE.
No one is watching this so called "good wrestling." It's not that people stopped being fans of wrestling, it's that the business changed, and not for the better. It sucks and the numbers prove it. WWECW and Impact from 10 years ago are doing numbers slightly under what Raw and Smackdown do today. AEW is a question mark in terms of interest, they're doing fine on PPV so far for an upstart but no one watched their TNT special. Impact and ROH draw about 148 viewers combined. People have sampled these products and most don't like it, because it isn't really pro wrestling.

Wrestling is not dead it's just not popular like it use to be, happens to most things in life. This is just something wrestlings fans are going to have to accept, this isn't the Attitude Era anymore and even though wrestling is more mainstream is not something people are interested in anymore. Of course, if you are a fan of wrestling there's plenty of it to go around. It shouldn't matter if millions aren't watching as long as you find it entertaining. Maybe that's another reason wrestling isn't as popular as it could be, wrestling fans have a sheep-like mentality and only watch what they think everyone else is watching. That would explain why so many wrestling fans hate the WWE but continue to watch it simply because it has the most views regardless if other promotions do what they claim WWE doesn't.

Most modern pro wrestling is hot garbage and like a reboot of the classic 1985 action cheesefest Gymkata.
