Long ago I posted a photo when some thought the Stardust gimmick was just made up as an answer to Golddust.

But long ago Dusty Rhodes wrestled as Stardust for a while.

On Cody's Wife's blog right after Dusty had passed she mentioned even as a kid Cody's nickname was Stardust.

So it was my opinion he kept the gimmick as it honors his father's old character and his childhood nickname.

But recently a very very old photo from when Cody was only 12 years old has been found, an awesome find. At 12 years old he already had his "wrestler" name picked out that he wanted.
I get a little lump in throat, he's always wanted to be like his dad.

Anyhow I thought some Cody fans or Rhodes fans might find it kinda cool.

It's cool but this current interpretation of his own gimmick absolutely sucks.

It would be a great gimmick if given regular time to get into his promo's and his weridness, and if the product had some entertaining things on it.

But Startdusts ramblings fall flat in this environment, and one week he's there, then he's not. It's too random and has no direction, like every charcter in WWE right now.

My favourite ever Cody was the mask wearing one with the baggers. Genius, I want this back and bring back the baggers.

I like this character, but it does feel rushed which isn't his fault. They need to give him a longer segment to give some exposition. Why is he "cosmic" why his fascination with universe. It can be silly or corny, that's fine. But the viewers only have a tiny picture of the character "he hisses, and uses space terms to symbolize ring/belt/opponents..." OK we got that , but they've forgot to give us the "why?" And "what for".

I'm not good at writing. I wish I was, I've always wanted to try my hand at short stories, but I when it comes to the detailed grammar rules like dangling participles and ending with prepositional phrases I tend to suck.

But I remember basic character development from freshmen college English and when fleshing out a character for the reader there's countless ways, and orders to do it, but you need to give the reader the 4 W's.

Who? What? Why? and Why Not?

Nice concise explanation on the 4 W's of character development: https://shannoncurtis.wordpress.com/2013/11/04/writing-101-four-ws-for-character-development/

So far WWE has given the Who, definitely the Why Not, and a little bit of Why during the Neville feud and the dropped Golddust feud. But they've never given the What.
Many WWE characters suffer this problem and if you pay close attention. Characters with all 4 W's defined, even if defined very poorly are the ones more over with casuals and the older crew.
But the characters that flop, or no one cares are missing 1 or more W's if character development.

Great find on the Stardust Kid pic, the character shown on WWE really is a mysterious enigma but after reading Cody's (on Eden's blog) writings/memories of his legendary father there are hints towards the purpose of Stardust.

His ramblings of the Universe & stars could easily be compared to the Universe merge between WWE fanbase Universe and comicbook Universe, in Cody's writings he discusses wanting his feuds to mirror a comicbook character feud and throughout Neville's feud up to and including Barrett & Ascension there were brief anime sketches (and comic book series) designed to compliment the WWE matches.
As for the Stardust look there's no denying there's influence there from his brother's character's costume/facepaint but the promos seem to be a combo of both the comicbook villain character and Goldust's random micwork.

I like that Cody is doing what he wants. I'm not totally into the character, but if he enjoys doing it, good for him.
