Yes it's that thread again.
I honestly think it is. I don't know who's worse, Michael Cole or Jerry Lawler.
On one hand, you have Michael Cole:
- Constantly kisses celebrities ass
- Constantly buries segments and good moments like Fink coming out to introduce Punk etc.
- Brings too much attention to himself and never truly puts anyone else over.
- Is generally a bad commentator who doesn't know any of the moves and holds and how it affects the wrestlers.
- His catchphrases are god awful. I'm not talking about Vintage and "Oh My", I'm talking about the ones most people don't usually catch on to like the commercial break spot -- "____ is rolling! Can he keep it up, find out after the break!" <-- this line is used EVERY WEEK. For god sake Cole, think of something fresh.
- He's generally just a parrot, who hasn't got any opinions of his own. Now I know it's scripted and everything but it's obvious he's been told what to say. If thats the case, then Vince McMahon should just come back to commentating. Atleast he was entertaining.
Then you have Jerry Lawler.
- A guy who is clearly not interested in the product. He doesn't know any of the wrestlers that haven't been seen on Raw. I mean "Curtis Hawkins"? fpalm It's a well known fact that Jerry Lawler doesn't even watch Smackdown.
- Like Cole, the guy doesn't know any of the moves and holds. Which is a major problem as a commentator. I remember one time, Matt Striker called Cattle Mutilation correctly and Lawler was like "WHAT? Your commentary is a Cattle Mutilation." That was just unprofessional of him. There was really no need.
- His constant bickering with Cole is annoying. They're not Monsoon and Heenan. Lawler is a natural heel.
- His jokes about Vickie are terrible. And as a face, it makes him look like a douche. It was funny when he used to do it about Helen Hart but when you promote the good guy as "the bully" who makes fat jokes, thats bad. Especially with their ever precious BE A STAR campaign.
- Seeing him repeatedly call Bryan a goat last week was really grinding my gears. A part of me wanted to see Bryan hop the announce table and kick his head in. I mean come on dude.
- He never has anything good or constructive to say. Lawler's script-sheet must consist of "Boo heels, Cheer faces." I hate biased commentators. Especially those who blindly justify a faces bad actions like Sheamus stealing a car. Sure you could say "What else could he say besides borrowed?" but if thats the case, Cole shouldn't have said anything at all. Why would they have an argument about this if there was ever any doubt?
I'm just saying. If the commentary isn't the worst thing, I don't know what is. It's sad because WWE have some great commentators like Matt Striker and Scott Stanford who add way more legitimacy and credibility to WWE's show and yet they're not used. And what about Joey Styles? You have Stanford with the American sports analyst voice, Striker as the perfect color guy who knows all the history and holds and what they affect and then you have broadcast legend like Joey Styles sitting on the sidelines. I don't get it.
I know it's been talked about before, but IMO it's the single worst thing in the company. If you disagree, what would you consider the single worst thing in the company?
