No he isn't. He is a byproduct of guys like Austin, Rock, and Hogan giving WWE a monopoly over the business.

The way he was pushed would not happen in the 80s and 90s under a competitive industry.
Well, it would've been hard to push doctor of thuganomics gimmick in the 80s, it is correct.

No I really meant the reactions of the audience. Vince would be scared to death with his top face being booed out the building in the 80s or 90s. Especially at a media driven event like WrestleMania.

During the Monday Night War Vince would panic big time if Cena was pushed on Raw with his reactions against Goldberg on Nitro.

Some may say the audience changed, but the truth is he got rejected originally as the heir apparent to Steve Austin and The Rock.

The Rock coming back to feud with him was needed in terms of legacy of history comparisons.

Vince had more luxury to build and stick to guys he wanted to push regardless of reactions due to WWE buying out the competition.

He’s not on my mount rushmore but I can see why people would call him that.
Yeah I get it - honestly - after watching for years I don’t see how he’s on THAT level, other than the fact that he was around forever and the kids/merch/make a wish factor. Other than those he’s far behind the peaks of the usual suspects in this convo. But with that said keeping an open mind and seeing other perspectives.

I wasn't saying anyone specifically was born yesterday! Just that if someone thinks he is the greatest of all time then that is probably the reason. If we can find someone who disproves that theory I would like to meet them.
Ahhh gotcha, my bad! I hear that!

I think Austin and Rock are ahead of Cena but longevity counts a lot in the GOAT argument for a lot of fans. That's why Cena gets the edge over Austin and Rock in GOAT debates.
Yeah I hear that… tho I’m not one of those fans. Actually, in many ways I think that hurts him (20- really 15-16 years with less success than those than accomplished more in much less time). For example, Hogan caused 2 booms in the basically the same amount of time Cena was legit on top. Granted, that was a different time- but when getting in these convos between the greats… it’s something to note. However, I do see the perspective of longevity- he has been the company man forever. He also coincided with the evolution of social media which adds to the worldwide aspect - but I don’t think it’s comparable cause other past stars in their primes didn’t have that.

Kayfabe-wise, hard to think of someone with more achievements in a “WWE universe.” No shock they would just go ahead and advertise him as such.

Vince would've not turned rapper Cena into PG babyface boyscout in 1998

Cena can’t be my GOAT because longevity is it for me.. AJ Styles is probably the dude who’s taken the least amount of time of since I’ve watched. Well, Miz perhaps but he ain’t no fuckin goat. At least AJ is good in ring despite not being able to talk 20 years later.

Orton maybe? Est. 2008

Yeah I agree, but also remember it was Steph who saw his potential with the trash talking freestyles.

Would that opportunity show itself for Cena to get a chance?

At the time The Rock had that midcard heel promo trash talking down as IC champ.

Austin was peaking too. Over on Nitro NWO incorporated that East coast west coast rap beef war persona too.

Cena Dr thuganomics would be interesting with less restrictions in that era though.
