Hi, noob here and my first thread too.
The title is pretty self-explanatory, so have fun discussing.
Personally, I'll vote for yes. I think he just topped his match with Taker at WM 17 and with HBK & Benoit at WM 20. Man, the crowd was insane the whole time!!
And the whole 3 Pedigrees + 7 chair shots + 1 Tombstone drama in the end was sick!! The crowd went nuts when Taker kicked out of Tombstone (LOL, that sounds wrong).
I mean, the last time he had a classic bout before last night was probably at Badd Blood 2004 against Shawn Michaels. And no offense, this question isn't meant to bash anyone. His best work definitely came during 2000-2004 with Foley, Austin, Rock, and HBK. But after that, he seemed to fade while Undertaker & Shawn Michaels nailed their legendary status each year.
We'll start with his work against Batista in 2005. The Wrestlemania 21 match was decent at best. And in all honesty, none of the matches was a classic. I think it's common knowledge Batista's later work with Undertaker in 2007 topped his work with HHH (especially the one at Wrestlemania 23, now that's classic).
And his work with Cena at Wrestlemania 22 was solid, but definitely not comparable to matches like Hogan/Warrior or Angle/Lesnar. While the crowd was hot the match suffered from slow paced wrestling. Then his DX reunion, while it was great I'm sure it wouldn't be remembered for the matches.
And in 2007, his only stand out match was with The Last Man Standing against Orton. But while great, I wouldn't really call it a must see or legendary. Their feud is mediocre at best so the matches didn't have that much quality in it either.
He didn't do much in 2008 and his Wrestlemania 25 main event in 2009 against Randy Orton was a disaster, worse than any main event Sid has ever been in despite having an otherworldly build up & hype. And the crowd leaving halfway to the match was insufferable for both HHH & Orton, I believe.
And his work with Sheamus at Wrestlemania 26 only bored the dead crowd to tears.
But then came his match at Wrestlemania which needs no further explanation. I feel like this is Triple H's best Wrestlemania work (again yes, topping the one at WM 17 & 20). The crowd went bananas from the get go, dare I say even crazier than Taker/HBK at WM 26 last year. I'm glad he finally got a Wrestlemania match that can be mentioned alongside the likes of Hogan/Warrior, Bret/HBK, Rock/Austin, and Lesnar/Angle.
What do u think?
