I just got WWE '13 and I LOVE IT. I don't think I've played enough to make a decision like this though. I love Here Comes the Pain to death. What a tough choice. What do you think?

HCTP is a classic. The new one is pretty good though.

I think HCTP ranks quite highly in terms of top games in all genres, whereas WWE13 doesn't. Oh and WCWNWO Revenge is the greatest wrestling game of all time (apart from Fire Pro and No Mercy ofc :p)

I thought 'Shut Your Mouth' was better than HCTP. Still though, No Mercy is my #1.
Shut Your Mouth was a huge improvement on Just Bring It but I think of the three HTCP was the best. Had the best roster for me and the gameplay was the most fluid.

I think WWE '13 has a mighty fine roster itself and the gameplay is a little slower paced but it's still exciting to play.

Nostaligia marks will always go with HCTP. It is a good game, but what people don't seem to factor in is had it been released in an environment like today's it would've gotten scrutiny. Feature wise it's very hard to really compete with what WWE '13 can offer now, but a lot of people will still pick HCTP for it's gameplay. In the end, it's up to you. If you enjoy the game it doesn't matter what the internet tells you.

No, Here Comes the Pain was never the best WWE game. I'd go for Smackdown 2 personally but a lot of hardcore gamers will tell you that one of the N64 games would be #1.

yes and it's not close

WWE 13 is really good...until you finish the Attitude Era mode. And then there is nothing enjoyable left to do.

HCTP's season mode is still fun to play through 10 years later.

and yeah HCTP's fast-paced gameplay > today's slow "realistic (lol no)" gameplay.

No Mercy's storyline modes were beyond awesome. I played that shit like every hour that I was awake. No one will ever forget the pains of having to defend that hardcore title with the 24 hour rule. And McMahon always screwing you in the end.

The one aspect they have not been able to recreate (which is ridiculous considering today's technology) from No Mercy was the physics engine. You could have a person mid-way through a move or in a grapple and be able to successfully clothesline or attack them to break the hold. I still have yet to play a wrestling game that did that as well as the N64 games did. They've tried to bring that back but it's never been the same.

I guess you could say the games of today are more "realistic" but I don't find them anywhere near as fun.

And an honorable mention goes to Raw and Raw 2 for PC/Xbox. Those games were the shit too.

I fucking loved Here Comes the Pain. I used to get baked and play that game for hours. I was soo pissed when my disc finally gave out because it'd been played so much.

The roster was awesome and it gave you a ton of fun things to do. Who doesn't remember loving people fall off the cell?

What does that even mean, of course a 10 year old game would be scrutinized if it were released today. If you look at what HCTP did with its technology in 2003 and how it built upon the previous game and then compare it to what WWE 13 did with its technology in 2012 and how it built upon the previous game, it pretty much makes WWE 13 the worst wrestling game in existence. Obviously HCTP will be less feature-rich than WWE '13, but for every step forward WWE '13 took, it also took about 40 back. HCTP's faults are outweighed by it's positives, WWE 13's positives are outweighed by it's faults. The amount of resources available to a video game company (nevertheless a multi-million dollar one) in 2012 (and now 2013) should pretty much guarantee that it would make a better game than the year before (and especially one from 2003), but in WWE 13's case, they didn't.

And IMO, SYM is better than HCTP, but by a slim margin.

Day Of Reckoning 2 was better. Vertical Exploder was the best move in that game. But best WWE game of all time, Here Comes The Pain

Here Comes The Pain was good, Smackdown 2 was good as well. Its a toss up for me, Obviously Here comes the pain had better gameplay, but smackdown 2 had a great yet really long season mode, and i love the rankings system..both games are amazing, i cant choose just 1

This sums it all up fairly well

Yup. Here Comes The Pain is indeed the best wrestling game that has yet to be topped. WWF No Mercy, WWF WrestleMania 2000, Smackdown Shut Your Mouth, and RAW vs Smackdown 2006 are also incredible games.
