Double or Nothing had several surprise debuts even beyond Jon Moxley, ranging from the Super Smash Bros to Awesome Kong. If plans had gone forward as intended, it seems we could have been in for at least one more surprise. According to reports by PWInsider, current reigning IMPACT Champion Brian Cage was backstage at the show and scheduled to make his AEW debut.

Scheduled in for the Casino Battle Royale, IMPACT officials caught wind of the scheduled appearance and contacted Cage, telling him that he wasn’t allowed to compete. IMPACT creative team member Tommy Dreamer was at Double or Nothing and did compete in the battle royale, but Dreamer is not currently under contract with any promotion as a wrestler.

1. Isn't Cage hurt right now? Last I heard he won't be back until July for Slammiversary.

2. If this is true, because honestly this sounds sketchy, it depends on what they would be using him for. Cage is Impact's current World Champion. If they were just going to put him in the Battle Royal, then you absolutely don't let him wrestle there if you can help it.

3. With Callis in Impact and Omega (and Jericho) in AEW, I'd be surprised with any foul play.

4. If AEW can eventually get Cage, that would be a good get for them. A big guy who can still do the flippy shit. If he can pass a drug test he would be a good attraction for them.

I would love Cage at AEW
But something about this report doesn't sound right...
He just thought he could show up at AEW and didn't run it by Impact?

I don't believe this report honestly. I'm pretty sure AEW would've definitely asked Impact beforehand, and I think Cage would/should have asked/known what his other obligations would think of this.

This sounds like bs. Both Cage and AEW would know that Impact wouldn't allow this.

If Impact were smart they would've made this happen. Getting in bed with the coolest company in the states would've been a great move for them and opened doors. But they've shot themselves in the foot so many times they make No Legs look like Usain Bolt.

AEW have had a lot on their minds, regarding DON, there are bound to be some fuck ups. Look at the PAC/Page situation. I hope they can get Cage later, always liked him.

Well, the PAC situation happened because PAC is an asshole who thinks if he loses to Hangman Page in a non-title match it means the Open the Dream Gate Championship loses all prestige (as if Dragon Gate has any real prestige to begin with. It's the third or fourth biggest company in Japan.

I can understand why Impact wouldn't want their top guy in a gimmick battle royale for a competing brand on live PPV. Most promotions don't permit their performers to work on television and PPV for other promotions, and AEW will be doing the same thing once their TV deal starts up. Especially since he would most likely lose the match (I'm pretty sure MJF was gonna be the original winner)
