What if the wwe was like an nfl organization and all of pro wrestling was a draft ,and you were in charge of it and had the number one over all pick. Which superstar past present dead or alive would you choose to "start your franchise" with and why. It can even be a star from another company. Who would be your andrew luck or RG3 ??

The Rock
The guy is the total package (no not Luger). Awesome look, skills, charisma, massive draw, he's got it all. Plus he's a company guy, not afraid to elevate others unlike Hogan, HBK etc.

The Rock. As the poster above me said, he's got the complete package. He's the type of guy you need as the face of the company. He's got the charisma, the look, the work ethic and he's a people person so when he's doing public appearances he'll do the company proud. he's dynamic.

Hulk Hogan has already basically answered this question in actual wrestling history.
True, and if it weren't for him, this wouldn't even be a forum. And I would be a huge fan of rockstar Chris Irvine, and Pizza Delivery man, Phil Brooks

People will think this is biased but I don't give a fuck, I would pick Piper, because he can both be a heel and face and his mic skills are far superior to most wrestlers. He isn't awful in the ring, but he isn't the best, either. That could be worked on.

I will say though that even without"Hulkamania" and the national expansion of Vince Jr. that the internet and communication technology like widespread cable and satellite would still have hurt the mystique of the NWA territories in the long run anyway.

If this is taking place in the current era, I'd be forced to choose Cena over The Rock from a business perspective. Cena's longevity and ability to appeal to fans of all ages (if allowed to) would benefit the company greater in my opinion. However, if this was 1985, I'd definitely go with Hogan. In 1975, it would be Superstar Billy Graham.

My second pick would be Andre The Giant in his prime, because great 'faces need great heels.

It would have to be Austin. The guy had the drive to get to the top, he finished a match with a broken freaking neck. Rock is easily the most successful wrestler ever though. I chose Austin simply for the fact he did wrestling for wrestling not like Rock doing wrestling to get his name out there and become a film star. Just like sports would you draft a very talented person who is devoted to what they are doing or someone who is amazingly talented but will leave when he gets what he wants.

Would pick Rock 2nd though just because how popular he was and is. He is a once in a lifetime talent. its win win anyway guys are ranked 1 or 2 in most ppls minds.

Piper certainly had 100 percent the "it" factor that is probably better than 99 percent of every other wrestlers that ever wrestled. So even if your pick is outside the box to use an old expression it sure is a good one IMHO.

Realistically, everyone is playing second fiddle to Hogan in modern wrestling.
Austin almost single handedly saved the WWE from going out of business, Rock didn't become a big star until after WWE have overtaken WCW and were big again.

Hogan helped initiate a boom period but he was aimed at little kids, he wouldn't work in this era, he'd be booed all the time like Cena. Austin is by far the superior talent.

Austin. DAT GOAT.

Not really. Austin is far superior to Hogan because he was the face of the company and got super over AFTER the Internet became a widespread phenomenon and every inner working of wrestling was basically exposed. Hogan was too limited and had to rely on his kayfabe induced super strengths too much, Austin was pure, unadulterated talent. The Attitude Era was bigger than the Golden Era, that's a fact. There's a famous saying in the business "Hogan made Vince McMahon a millionaire, Austin made him a billionaire, then Triple H and Stephanie made him a millionaire again".

I have watched wrestling since the late 1970s. Hogan took wrestling on a national stage and basically worldwide. What Hogan did was more than a boom period but rather a major overhaul and transformation in the industry itself. The Golden Era was the most popular era in pro wrestling. The Attitude Era was the most popular era since the Golden Era but it never reached the heights of the Golden Era. The Golden Era was so popular that a major network gave the WWE its own weekly prime time show for a little while. When a major network in that day and time did that it meant that wrestling was an astronomically cultural phenomenon. If I took an educated guess I would say that the average person who does not watch wrestling would recognize Hogan over Austin.

Hogan in the 1980s was beloved by kids, teenagers, young adults, adults and the elderly. His charisma was so off the charts that he did not have to rely on profanity and vulgarity to become a star. The fact is that Hogan is the Michael Jordan of modern pro wrestling and everybody is playing second fiddle. Hogan made modern pro wrestling whereas realistically there is a debate now if Austin is even more famous than the Rock. Hogan is the GOAT in modern wrestling.
