And went on to win the IC title as planned instead of Curtis Axel, could Axel have been in a better position today? Lately the IC title has been nothing but a curse to most guys and usually they come in with momentum, win the title then lose every match on weekly tv and have no feuds just random title matches. So I ask, would Curtis Axel have been more successful without it?

Axel is pretty good in the ring, but that's about it. Nothing else stands out, his IC run has little to do with where he is today.

In short; no, Axel spent a large chunk of last year being involved in a storyline with Paul Heyman and CM Punk during which the IC title was a complete afterthought. He'd have been doing the Punk/Heyman/Ryback thing regardless of whether he had the belt or not.

He was always going to end up in this position irrespective of what happened with Fandango. He's probably the exception to the IC curse recently, as opposed to it killing his momentum like it has with Big E and Barrett the title instead just reached Dean Ambrose/US title levels of irrelevancy during his reign.

I don't get the "axel is good in the ring" ... He can work. But his moveset and abilities are generic as fuck .. He's good in the sense that he can work .. but that doesn't mean he's good enough to have been given the position he got.

Fandango was definitely a better pick to win the IC at the time and would've gone over massively. However, nothing stopped the WWE from booking him to win after he returned so it's not like the injury is the only thing to blame for Fandango getting buried like he was.

At this point imo, Fandango has the best gimmick in the midcard (even though it's a mid-card for life gimmick but that's not a bad thing) and he should've been the one facing off against BNB for a shot at Big E.

Fandango is awesome. The only reason he's not a star right now is because of weak booking and not letting him have any promo time or storylines (like all midcarders). Anyone who has heard his promos knows that he's really good on the mic. He's also good in the ring when they let him have more than a 2 min squash match with Santino.

He's one of the best young talents they have, and I'd bet money he's going to be a star, whether it's with this gimmick or some other one.
