i'm watching Wrestlemania Rewind Icon vs Icon (http://veedio.info/dailymotion.php?url=k1b7G6eGr5Je2t77XBf? ) right now and that name popup in my head every minutes as i continue Stone Cold Steve Austin instead of Rock...When Hogan said in the promo there will never ever bigger star than Hogan and at that moment Austin walk out could have been epic instead of Rock.

yes, Rock was the guy everything but Austin Is the guy that turn business around which help WWE/F to become what it have become in that period of time.

sorry Rock Mark/Fans...Battle of Biggest Star should have been Austin vs Hogan.

only WWE claims Rock vs Hogan was that moment or what ever you want to call it but the fans never considered it...talk about WM or Moments, i hardly hear Rock/Hogan popup.

Austin's knees were too gone by then. It would have had to happen earlier.

After the Golden Era, WWE tried everything they could to create another Hulk Hogan. After the Attitude Era, WWE tries everything to recreate another The Rock......

lol

12yrs later, and Austin marks are still butthurt over the fact that Rock was choosen to be in the icon vs icon match over Austin.

You saw how the crowd in chicago(the best wrestling crowd in the country) reacted when Rock made the challenge to Hogan, right? and you're saying that nobody wanted to see Rock/Hogan!? smh

Hogan/Austin would've made sense in 1998/1999, but in 2002, Rock was clearly THE man. DEAL WITH IT!

which fans are you talking about ? the other 5 people under the bridge ? that match to this day is recognised as one of the biggest matches of all time and maybe the greatest in terms of atmosphere

stop being a blind mark and deal with it

Makes sense. Rock was playing a character while Austin was being himself. That's a no-no today. Rock was PG for the most part and Austin wasn't. Your comparison sucks.

Agreed. At the time, Hogan vs Rock was NOT a dream match that fans were clamoring for. Hogan vs Austin was. Yes, Hogan vs Rock became an iconic moment and the atmosphere is unparalleled but that doesn't change the fact that more people wanted Hogan vs Austin.

Other dream matches that fans wanted those years were Austin-Goldberg, HBK-Sting, among others. We got Rock-Goldberg instead of Austin-Goldberg. Could you imagine if they tried to pass *that* off as a dream match? Or what if they gave us say, Austin-Sting and say that we've been clamoring for it. I reckon fans would probably eat that shit up but it's not the ideal dream match-up that many wanted.

It'd be similar to Austin returning and facing Cena rather than Punk (if he was still here) and saying that fans wanted Austin-Cena over Austin-Punk when that doesn't seem to be the case whatsoever.

I'm not sure. I am by no means a fan of The Rock but it made more sense to have him face Hogan in my opinion. I think there are more parallels between Rock and Hogan than Austin. They both had the film things going on, they both had the catchphrases and were both clearly characters. I would have preferred Austin to be in there instead but I honestly think in terms of the way both their careers have panned out, Rock and Hogan makes more sense

As far as being a great Wrestlemania moment goes, I believe it is. I remember watching it for the first time and it was certainly special.

Mainstream and pop culture wise rock surpassed Austin by 2002 (even earlier than that) it's fact and there's no debate about it. Austin vs hogan would've been great too, but at that moment in 2002 and beyond rock and hogan delivered and seeing as how hot the crowd was for it leading up it shows they loved it too. The mere fact that they had a rock to face hogan instead of Austin who is an icon himself is a testament to how huge the rock was and still is.
Complaining about it 12 years later shows insecurity on the part of Austin
marks. Boo hoo.. It happened and it's an all time moment- get over it.

Also- it made sense in the fact that the rock was the biggest crossover wrestling star since hulk hogan which was also fact.

Oh yeah and if Austin faced hogan in Toronto he would have been booed too - just getting that out the way as well.
