The point of the brand split is to legitimise Smackdown as a brand in its own right, boost ratings, increase the number of PPVs and therefore Network subs, increase the number of live shows per year while reducing risk of injury, and provide greater opportunities for under-utilised talent instead of having constant Raw re-matches on Smackdown with storylines that make zero progress until the next Raw because nothing happens on Smackdown right now.

Smackdown will become a legitimate rival to Raw, however whenever you compare a 3-hour show to a 2-hour show (60% vs 40%) then the #1 guy from each show is NOT automatically equal.
