Hypothetically, who would you like to see go over in an Austin/Punk match?

A few years ago I would have said Punk. Going over the GOAT would have been great for his career. But even if Punk does come back, it may be just on a part time basis. And he will likely be retiring for good soon anyways. So he doesn't really need the win as much as he would have several years ago.

Right now, I would not mind having Austin go over if this match indeed happens.

...So, if we're going by who "needs the win", why the hell would we let Austin over?

I can already smell fanboy-hater battle coming. I'll chime in with this, and it's going to be biased. Give it to Punk.

Why the fuck not? He didn't beat any of the "past greats" yet. HHH didn't let him over. Taker didn't let him over, even back in their WHC feud. Rock didn't let him over, when the opportunity was clear when they could have had Punk win at least the first match, only for Rock to demand another out of some bull shit contender thing. Only person who let him over was Jericho, but at this point Jericho has jobbed out to every other asshole, it pretty much meant absolutely nothing.

Punk beating Austin would be that one ultimate pay-off. Make it the main event even. Build it up to be a legendary feud, that isn't VIA SATELLITE during half of it. Stone Cold goes for the stunner, shoved into the ropes, Punk hits a GTS, takes the win. Ends the ultimate question.

Or hell, just have Punk heel it up with cheap chair shots. All I know is? I would want Punk to get the pay off.

And before any Rock mark comes in with the occasional "ROCK PUT PUNK OVER, HE DIDN'T HAVE TO WIN." No, using Punk as pretty much a stepping stone while pulling off the most half assed promos against him, beating him twice, only for him to lose to Cena which lead to an almost forgettable rematch feud with a completely forgettable Cena title run isn't putting Punk over.

Even if Punk returns, he is pretty much at the end of his career. So I disagree that he needs the win. All he wants is to main event WM once before he retires. He could do that against Austin.

Austin's career has ended.

Point?
My point is neither of them really need it. If it was Austin vs someone like Bray Wyatt I would say Austin should definitely put Bray over.

If Punk was around in the attitude era he would have surpassed Austin. he is better on the mic and better in the ring.
Too bad that isn't a verifiable fact though.
