check out his matches during his heel run around 2001-2. Some fantastic matches in there. I'd also recommend matches against the Rock but I have a feeling you'd probably consider that to be rubbish.

People on here tell me that before he broke his neck, he was intense. You can probably understand the need for him to tone it down after suffering such an injury. In fact, when you consider his perfomances post-neck injury, you've gotta admit (surely?) that guy right there is a wrestling genius.

But my love for Stone Cold mostly resides in his character, his booking, and his charisma. That guy was at the top of the mountain for good reason.

Seriously though, check out his matches vs the likes of Benoit and Angle. Epic stuff

i really wonder why i bother logging on here anymore
I agree. I hate being condescending because everyone has a right to voice their opinion, but there really should be some sort of aptitude test for membership, because the level of discourse has dipped precipitously in the last 18-24 months.

Honestly, there are plenty of top stars whose in-ring skill could easily be questioned. Hogan, Rock, Andre, Cena, Orton, etc. Like Savage, Hart, Michaels, and Flair, Austin is above reproach as far as in-ring ability is concerned.

It would be like saying how is John Holmes one of the greatest pornstars of all time all he had was a really big penis but didn't have the same pop as some kid now in 2011 on a Brazzers dvd or something. Some could see greatness in a wrestler some only care about 5000 high spots, "innovative" moves, and no selling or in some cases the Puro Technical stuff. Look Chris Benoit himself who some consider the best in ring worker of all time never got by on the moves alone, the man was hard nose in there.

Have you seen Austin working before his neck got fucking ruined by Owen? Even if you haven't, the guy could still put together awesome matches with his brawling style.

It's easy to overscrutinize someone that's regarded as an absolute legend but Austin's ringwork was fucking solid before his injuries, and he still put on classics afterwards so, yeah. Nothing to see here.

Because this is the internet son.

But in reality he was very, very good before his neck injury, wouldn't call him truely 'great' though, that's for the Angles and Steamboats of the world,
