I can understand why they don't consider the WCW or ECW championships as being a part of the WWE champions list, since they were legitimately different promotions, but it is odd that the World Heavyweight Title isn't included. That's just another problem with a company having two World Champions though. I've always hated that they did that.

I think Inoki SHOULD be considered a champion "officially" by the WWE. DiBiase probably as well, although since he "bought" it, I could see a better argument for that one. Then you have guys like Owen Hart among others who won it but had the decision reversed. In "real" sports, they probably wouldn't be considered champions, so Hart, etc. probably shouldn't as well.

In regards to Batko & whomever else - the OP took the list from wikipedia's ordering of "Combined Reigns," meaning who had held the belt the longest. It's right under the chronological listing of champions on that wikipedia link you posted, Batko. Rogers being listed as 38 (technically tied at 38 with RVD) isn't an insult to him or to his legacy. He's simply held the WWE World Heavyweight Championship (in whatever iteration it was in during his days) for a smaller amount of days than 37 other men in the history of the belt. Bruno is at the top of the list because his two reigns, combined, equalled out to 4,040 days total. Buddy's one reign equals out to 22 days.

Why would Rogers be listed #38 ??? Is this your list in order of GOAT WWE champions???
Calm yourself, it's in order of how many combined days they were WWE/F champion (doesn't include WHC). The top 10 is identical from an official article on WWE's website, and is also why guys like Kane and Mysterio are so low with their less than 24 hour reigns.

1. Orton
2. Bryan
3. Cena
4. Lesner
5. Rollins

Prior to that it was a seperate WWE title and WHC, right?

I agree with you that a great argument could be made for HHH being in the same conversation as the great kayfabe heels. I think HHH if he wrestled in those days could have pulled it off. He just would have had to be less tame in his wrestling character for lack of a better term. I think HHH has stood out to younger fans because like you implied he was not "cool" as opposed to the other so called heels. It is sort of like he was the big heel in a small pond. Sort of the same similarity of how younger fans of today rate Lesnar so unique and a wrestling monster because he is basically a big fish in a small pond of 220 pounders.
was with you until this... im not sure how someone who was qualified enough of an athlete to play in the nfl, win the wwe and ufc titles, and run a FASTER 40 TIME THAN JERRY RICE, is considered a big fish in a small pond however well have to agree to disagree here.

Well, below is a typical Buddy Rogers match. If this make you fall asleep then you are a "sports entertainment" fan, NOT a wrestling fan.

We had wrestling back in the day, sonny, NOT soap operas with cars being dropped from cranes, wrestlers buried alive, the owner's daughter being kidnapped, etc.

There's nothing wrong with being a fan of "sports entertainment." However, you should recognize that you are not watching wrestling - you are watching a soap opera/adventure series with wrestling as the backdrop.

Yeah that's why I'm curious, WWE recognizes the WWE World Heavyweight title as past WWE Championship wins....but don't seem to recognize past World title wins for the WWE World Heavyweight championship lol...so am kinda unsure
I believe they do or in the case of Jack Swagger on SmackDown last week they did. Tom Phillips referred to him as being a former WWE World Heavyweight Champion and not just World Heavyweight Champion.

Then again, the whole Championship heritage situation is muddled anyway but I think WWE just lumps all the WWE and World Heavyweight Champions reigns under one distinction so that way there's no confusing the viewer at home since WWE thinks the average fans memory is as short as fruit fly's life cycle.

Thanks for your support! But, these people don't bother me in the least. Their put downs of real wrestling and mockery gives me an opening to present wrestling history to those who want to learn something. And, I'm sure that there are young wrestling fans out there, not just "sports entertainment," i.e. soap opera, fans.

BTW, this thread really should have been in "Classic Wrestling." It concerns the history of the WWE which, contrary to what many out there believe, began long before the "sports entertainment" era. It stretches back 52 years!

you really need to get off your ass and write a book on this stuff man id love to read about guys like Haystasks Calhoun, Lou Thesz, and of course Buddy Rogers and Gorgeous George. To me those two seem similar to an untrained eye, what is your take on their similarities? differences?

A documentary should be done and put on the WWE Network or something, that way more people might take an interest, which may make places like here a better place also.

I don't really know much about the wrestling back then and barely recognise a few names, many which I've learnt from here.

I dont think there is a correct number. Inoki won the title and Ted Dibiase was Champ for a few days.
There is a correct number. WWE does not recognize them, Wikipedia does not recognize them. And it is WWE's title, so if they so no, no is correct. They didn't forget to add these reigns (like RVD's European title reign), they did not want them to be added to their title histories.
