How will it be? His time is almost up. It's inevitable.

The reality is that wrestling is not as popular as it has been on a mainstream basis. In fact some say that this may be the lowest point for the WWE popularity wise since the WWE started going national in the early 1980s. One thing to be stated is that wrestling does have a stable audience and in a way Cena is the embodiment of this era in that although he is a huge star he is not extraordinary or larger than life for lack of a better term. He has basically kept the status quo. When he leaves the WWE, I think it will be huge at first and he will be missed. However, I think the business will go on and will follow its cyclical precedent by probably having another larger than life superstar who will follow in the footsteps of a Hogan, Austin, Rock, etc. I think in the end the Cena era will likely be remembered as a long transition period.

They'll suffer for a few years, like they did when Hogan left.
The thing is though that Cena is no Hogan. That is not to say that Hogan's popularity was not dropping somewhat in his latter WWE years. However, Hogan leaving the WWE reminds me of when MJ left the Bulls after the 6th title in that it just totally deflated the league because the greatest ever was now gone and the league would never be the same. Cena just does not carry that type of nostalgic producing greatness and relevancy like Hogan did.

People will still watch and pay their money. There will be another Cena just like there was another Hogan, Rock, Austin, etc. But then again who knows what with WWE not building stars anymore and relying on the same top guys for the past 10 years.

I fully expect that after he retires there will be two months or so that many people really don't notice he's gone.

Then he'll return and steamroll everyone on the roster - simultaneously.

Cena will never give up. He will never back down. He will wrestle well into his eighties.

Seriously though, it's hard to really predict anything. I'm no Cena fan, but he's been the picture of consistency and reliability. He hasn't really had any extended time away from the place that I can recall, so there's not much to go on as to who might be a viable replacement. I guess there's Bryan but I hope they'd move forward from Cena with someone who might be a little more dynamic as a character. For the record, I'm not trying to insult Bryan (before this turns into a pool of piranhas attacking).

Ok, so I'm done ranting.

From a fans perspective it will be better, but for WWE, it will be a lot worse. John Cena is their golden goose. Unless they make another star who can draw like Cena, it won't be better for them.. Daniel Bryan is not quite there yet to take Cena's place.

they will take a dip, but it might develop in to an interesting period.. Think about this, would the attitude era came about if Hogan stayed around.

The exact same way it is now but with somebody different in Cenas position?

Do people assume the idea of being 'face of the company' dies when he retires?
Nope. it'll just be somebody else, granted they may be more tolerable, it'll still be the same old "markiemainevent never loses!" "Why did markiemainevent beat johnnymidcard?! he needed the push!" "IF MARKIEMAINEVENT WINS AT WRESTLEMANIA I'M GONNA BE SO MAD!"

It's just a circle dudes.

That time won't come for a good minute, and when it does, it won't come cold turkey. They will have built themselves another John Cena by then.

His time being up as THE top guy doesn't mean he's going to vanish. He will move into a different role, lower on the card but still important, and probably lose more often than usual. Then he'll move into being part time, then retire. This will take many years, barring major injury.

He won't be done as THE guy until someone else appears ready to take his place, anyway. Bryan is currently the best bet to do that, but it's early days on his push.

They moved on from sammartino, Andre the giant, hogan Austin and rock right? They'll be fine. I think the wwe finally has a legit strong mid card now with over characters/gimmicks and some of those stars can be groomed into the main spotlight If this was asked 3 years ago I think they'd be cause for some concern honestly
