Why is it that Bob Backlund was WWWF champion for like 6 years? The guy was the definition of bland. Maybe he had great technical skills but there were lots of other good wrestlers that also could put on great promo's. Backlunds second WWF run where he feuded with Bret Hart was more memorable then anything of his first run. i know Sammartino (who had extremely long title reigns) wasn't the most energetic speaker in promo's but the guy had presence and more charisma than backlund. I understand that people were really happy that The iron sheik ended his reign.

Vince Sr. loved him and he was a draw.

At the end of his run, the fans were turning on him though.

You can see in the video that he wasn't really as over as he used to be and the fans went NUTS when Hogan came out to help him.
