Hey guys. First post, but I lurk.

Ive got back into pro wrestling recently but the big companies don't deliver what I really like. I'm trying to find more of the really athletic stuff, like the Guns vs GenMe match on Bound For Glory. Is there a fed that specialises n that kind of thing, or are there particular Indy wrestlers who can deliver? Is lucha the answer?

I really like women's wrestling with the same kind of athleticism. Hamada is my absolute fave, for instance. Are there more like her? Should I hunt down a Shimmer DVD or two?

I figured you guys would have the smarts to cure me of my wrestling noobism. Any suggestions gratefully received.

ROH is the easiest to follow but is far from cutting edge..
DragonGate:USA is legit different but quite hard to follow... they have an iPPV soon so order that and see what you think.
The indys are hard to follow because it requires having to buy alot of the dvds. But if youre willing to do that then follow Ring Of Honor, Dragon Gate USA, Evolve,CZW (for ultraviolence) and PWG. All the others suck. Maybe youd like chikara but I find that fed pretty terrible. i wouldnt recomend Shimmer at all.

If you dont like WWE and tna then odds are you dont like wrestling anymore. Theres not much in the indys that would make it in either WWE or TNA anymore.

Sounds to me like you should be watching ROH, PWG and for women's wrestling 'SHIMMER'.

I personally only follow ROH out of the 3.

While I'm not about to Redrep you....*looks around for CM Skittle*....you are wrong.

Chikara is far from terrible. In fact, in terms of storyline consistancey and continuity, no one is better. If any fed is, I'd liek to here about it.

Meh, I just dont like the childishness of it all. Its not serious enough from what I've seen. Like Im reading a comic book. Its different though Ill give it that. Some decent high flying as well.

You'll definitely like PWG plus it's realy easy to follow. ROH is basically the best full time alternative to the big mainstream two though. They have a 1 hour TV show every Monday night on HDNet, 4 iPPVs this year and DVD shows get released something like every other week. They do about 2-4 of them per month on top of TV and iPPV.

Well there's the difference then, the fact that they don't take themselves so seriously is what I like about Chikara and I love comics, so........

For me, ironically, Chikara is the company that allows me to suspend my disbelief totally, cause right from the jump you have force yourself into their "universe" and they don't tip-toe around it or go halfway. Also, I burnt out on wrestling about 2 years ago and the lighter side of Chikara and well paced undercard allowed me to watch full shows again rather than picking and chosing certain matches.

Anyway, sorry for hi-jacking this thread to talk about Chikara. Everyones suggestions here are great!! PWG is on fire this year, ROH has been improving all year and DGUSA has been mending some problems as well and is worth a look.

but seriously just go pcik up some IWS-MS DVD's......:side:

Several major Indys are out there, like others mentioned.

ROH - The WWE of Indy wrestling. They have more of a traditional style now, imo, than the high flying style you might be looking for. It's great wrestling, they've just toned down on the flippy stuff currently.

PWG - Similar to ROH, but with less shows.

Dragon Gate - In terms of action this is probably what you want. It's slightly harder to follow due to not as many storylines. Mostly action.

Evolve - This company is just starting off, and almost is a spin off of ROH. They are experiencing minor growing pains at the moment. But in terms of promos/high flying it might be simialr to what you are looking for.

Chikara - This is a fun high flying product with simple storylines. Might be exactly what you are looking for. My only beef with the company is that their is no major world title. But they have tag belts, tournaments, and a young lions cup for younger stars. If you can get into the product, it's a great company.

Like others have mentioned, ROH is probably the easiest. You can find steals on some of their DVDs, and there is a TV show. Certainly ROH caters to all styles of wrestling, and "True" wrestling fans. Depending how much money time, and effort you are looking at, you can check out these companies too.

Funny, there's not much in WWE and TNA that would make it in the indies any more. And of those who would, the majority came from the indies in the first place. So the only conclusion I can come to is that you're just wrong.

Indy wrestling and WWE/TNA wrestling are two very different styles. Some prefer one style over the other. I don't watch WWE or TNA because I don't care for them, but I watch PWG, Chikara, Evolve, and ROH because I like those particular styles of wrestling. There is no right or wrong wrestling company to enjoy, and it is ridiculous to say that if you don't like one style that you don't like wrestling in general.

I second what pretty much everyone else has said.

DGUSA might be the right niche promotion for you, stylistically. Once you have enough posts you can download some SHIMMER matches from the Multimedia section. Full 3-hour shows can sometimes be too much, as awesome as that promotion is.

Also, every wrestling fan should be made to watch at least some shows from ROH's history, by law.

However, if you're looking for a instant, refreshing, shock to the system, I suggest that you grab some food and then watch this:

I can tell PWG is for you, they do spotfests as well as true main event quality wrestling. The company is not very serious though, so go to ROH for the best feud in wrestling, and people trying to be the best.

Well right now rohwrestling.com has a Buy 3 Get 2 Free Sale. I'd recommend the following to get you introduced based on action and star power:

Dragon Gate Challenge 3/30/2006
Better Than Our Best 4/1/2006
Fifth Year Festival: Finale 3/4/2007
Man Up 9/15/2007 (but make sure you see the 8/25/2007 Morishima vs. Danielson match first)
Supercard of Honor III 3/29/2008

If you want to get more, I'd suggest:
Supercard of Honor IV 4/3/2009
Northern Navigation 7/25/2008
Respect is Earned 5/12/2007
Bitter Friends, Stiffer Enemies II 4/24/2010

Keep in mind that there are a huge amount of tremendous ROH shows that have gone out of print. The majority of those OOP shows can be downloaded on rohvideos.com

You can also check out my ROH good shit archive and other media once you've gotten 25 posts.

For PWG, I recommend:

DDT4 2009
Threemendous II
As the Worm Turns
Titannica (Davey Richards vs. Roderick Strong alone is worth every penny)

For Dragon Gate USA, I can't recommend Open the Historic Gate enough.

I've been head over heels in love with PWG and Chikara a little over a year now, if you don't take your wrestling super srs then those companys should fit what you're looking for just right.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Ill check a few of those out. It does seem tricky to follow some Feds if they're completely DVD-based, but suggestions like these make it a bit easier to navigate. Dragon's Gate especially looks good, but I'll be sure to shop around as well

And Mr Crabtree, thanks for those links. Holy cow, those ladies really trashed the place. Normally i i dont care when the chair shots come out, but wow. This is why the world needs Hamada.

It's not really that I don't like the big companies' wrestling - I do, I check them out all the time. WWE has the higher production quality and TNA has some of the kinds of matches I enjoy the most. It's more that they also produce lots of stuff I don't care for as much. For instance, plenty of people love something like Kane vs Undertaker, but it's something I can't get into personally. TNA went downhill for me when their excellent women's division tanked, too.

I wish those companies would have separate xplosion/superstars-type shows for their women's divisions so they could develop and show them off properly instead of just showing the occasional models having a catfight, but we can all dream...

Follow CHIKARA. Greatest thing every if you like fun and GREAT wrestling with awesome storylines to go along with that.
Roh isn't too good anymore but buy stuff off of BIG sales
PWG- Just download.
JAPW- Really good stuff this year. Give it a try and see if you like it
Impact championchip wrestling- Awesome stuff. Just started up again and they care about what you think.
Evolve- Cheap and has the best wrestling ANYWHERE right now
DGUSA- Awesome stuff. Look what I said for evolve

I do not watch womens wrestling. The weakest out of the companies I wrote was ROH. Evolve and DGUSA dvds are the must see stuff.

I'd like to know what quality JAPW shows from the past 2 years could top Bitter Friends, Stiffer Enemies II, Supercard of Honor V, or Death Before Dishonor VIII.

Stuff like that is like a wrestling antidote. Its the polar opposite of WWE and TNA. You will never see women wrestling near 30 mins matches, with an issue strong enough to warrant that kind of physicality, in mainstream U.S. wrestling.

The best part, IMO, was when Hamada decided to break out the spinkicks and backflips after 15+mins of taking stiff shots and crazy bumps. Its like "OK luv, we get it. You're awesome".

You can probably get more entertainment - just out of reading the Bruderschaft's wikipedia page - than you would out of watching most wrestling companies' entire bodies of work for the past few years.

Nevertheless here's 'A World of Comforting Illusions', as kindly uploaded by Megawrestling: www.megaupload.com/?d=9IYYPS7F . Dunno if you've already seen that. If you're creative with google you can usually find indy shows in blogs and such like.

SCOH was a two match show and after that the show sucked out load. Same goes for BFSE2. Don't get me started with DBD. That was a disgrace. The show that KILLED my like for ROH.

JAPW, youll like it or you won't. Its not for everyone. I think its a good company doing alot of good things.
