I know it's not that big of a deal, but the amount of spelling/grammar errors I’ve noticed here are starting to bug me. I don't really care about not capitalizing sometimes or using a lowercase for "i", as I’m guilty of that myself sometimes. However, it gets annoying when you read a post with not one capital or full stop (I think it is called "period" in America). I'm talking about stuff like putting an apostrophe in want (seriously, someone actually typed "wan't"), spelling "torch" as "tourch", and gross misuse of the word "there" and "their". Some stuff I really couldn't care less, but sometimes I really wonder how some of these people managed to sleep through their classes as a child. Some posts, it's practically impossible to tell what the person is saying due to the amount of errors in their typing.

I understand that not everyone on this forum learnt English as their first language, so if I have insulted you I apologize. I guess this rant makes me look like someone who nitpicks and is pedantic, but small things get me angry sometimes. It's just who I am. I really can't help it either, every time I see one, that vein in my forehead gets a pump of blood through it. Involuntary anger flows through me like fire through my veins, and it sucks :/

I'd like to offer a solution to anyone who feels their typing/spelling is poor: open word, and copy paste your comments or new threads into there before posting. After doing that, run spell check. It will help some people take you seriously, and in some cases, actually allow other people to understand what you have written.

Anyone else find this annoying/frustrating?

People who post that way have been getting warnings and banned. Such posters don't deserve to express their "thoughts" about anything when they can't even form a proper one.

^^^^ Wasn't aware of that. Hopefully that will stop people who are just lazy and can not be bothered to type properly, hopefully might get people to spell check their comments if they are truly challenged in these areas.

I think the amount of spelling errors are just to do with being lazy, not stupidity in particular. It does get slightly frustrating, but you can only deal with it. However, when it comes to full posts with every word mispelled, or in all capitals, now that is really annoying.

Sometimes though, you have to consider that the person just hit the wrong key by mistake or something, because I do that every now and then. Mostly it has to do with typing too fast.

Just sheer stupidity is the only explanation for that unreadable mess.:agree:

Some people don't deserve to use a keyboard at all. Is it so much to ask that people simply read their posts before they hit that 'Submit Reply' button? Simple editing skills aren't that hard to learn. I think the overuse of 'Smilies' is the biggest 'disease' on any forum. That combined with lack/overuse of commas and full stops can be a nightmare. One guy on a forum I used to post at put a comma after every single word, it was incredible.

Ban these people from using computers until they can learn to communicate like normal people!

I'm really surprised some noob hasnt posted here flaming me yet, but it seems like this is a point of frustration for everyone. That makes me feel less pedantic :)

A failure to have gained even a basic grasp of language by the time people are old enough to post here physically sickens me.

Pff, it annoys me to. All those people from English countries ****ing up, yeah. I also hate it when those people do this:

restraunt (sp?), Phisicaly(sp?), etc.

Even I know how to spell those 'hard' words.

I suppose one can see that spelling is virtually non-existant, however even I admit myself that when I first joined the Forums, even I probably used the odd 'u' and 'fink' but I've come to realise that spelling and grammar do matter.

Thankfully, a vast majority of the more 'experianced' to these Forums know how to construct a simple sentance.

Just remember that for every person around here that can't spell, there's probably a million others out there that can. Let that comfort you.

Okay, those who can't spell on a computer are retarded. The keyboard is the most simple "contraption" on the computer. If you can't memorize 26 letters, you sir, do not deserve a keyboard.
I think that there should be a virus on this forums that infects only the keyboard, disabling it for a period of time. This would detect every time somebody replaces the word 'u' with 'you', 'wat' with 'what' etc.

ROTFLMFAO!!!!!
Actually this has been a hot topic of mine for a while.
I think its more of a problem when some kid id trying to type on a pc who hasn't really learned yet why the keyboard is set up the way it is. But other than that I can give you several reasons why you need to ask your question.
Today we are living in a society of instant gratification, requiring little or no effort on anyones part to actually research information. Laziness. No problem solving skills.
Why try to figure something out when all you have to do is type a word into a computer and thousands of answers pop up.
When I went to school, we were penalized for having a calculator in class, now its mandatory. ( now you gotta realize that handheld calculators were new to the market back then, and they weren't credit card size either.)
We actually had to look up answers for history, geography, social studies and everything else in an encyclopedia, which in most cases were already outdated.
Now with the "no student left behind" rules, its even worse. Because there is no longer that one on one, or slower learning process.

I made sure that my son ( who is now 12 ) learned very early how to solve problems without the computer, and he's now ahead of his class in every area. He rarely uses the computer to find anything out, only for additional information.

Instant gratification, super speedy information highway, and general all around laziness, plain and simple.

Now, I have to go back and re read what I just typed so I have no spelling errors.

Oh and by the way, you made a slight error it's , L E A R N E D, not learnt. :)

R-o-c-k In the U.S.A.! (I dunno!) :D

Seriously...I dunno why people are so uppity over a few missed keys. Or a few extra ones. Some people that post here are 12....some three times that. (And in Swindy's case...even older) People are going to fudge it up every now and again.

For those who make it a constant effort to do so...well. If they can't invest the brainwaves to post conceivably, why should we invest the brainwaves to care? (Or the energy to write about it?)

I always found it mediocre to rant about it...because, here we sit...still facing the problem. (Except now, as opposed to then, there's actions being taken to thwart it. So maybe the bitching's worked? Who's to say? All I know is hopefuly, it'll soon be a thing of the past.)

Well, when I saw someone put the apostrophe in "want", my blood started to boil. This created a lot of extra energy and frustration, which I depleted by writing this post :)

I don't believe that rants ever solve anything really; they are just a way for people to let out their frustrations, worries, feelings, whatever. It cleanses the mind and allows people to get stuff off their chest so they can continue on with more important things. While it doesn't solve the problem, it often stops the person from worrying or stressing over the problem as much.

That's just what I think anyway.
